A reality check for radiation professionals: Is the cost too high? . . Working in radiation comes with unique risks — every ray carries a probability of harm. Yet, many enter this field underpaid, believing it's "𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑒𝑑." Here’s what often happens: 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒑𝒂𝒚𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚: Many accept low pay to secure a job. But the reality? They soon realize their value exceeds their paycheck. 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒚𝒄𝒍𝒆: Seeking fair compensation, they switch jobs. But this turnover often opens doors for new professionals, sustaining a cycle of underpaid entry roles. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒔𝒕: Every transition in radiation careers not only impacts individual growth but also the professional landscape, unintentionally setting a lower wage bar. 🔑 Value your expertise, especially in fields where safety is paramount. Breaking this cycle starts with professionals standing firm on fair compensation. 💬 Have you experienced similar patterns in your field?

Last year, we launched the UK’s first direct air capture plant. This year, we’re putting another two systems on the ground. (More on that here 👉 https://bit.ly/3SyEnIl) This ambitious growth is entirely down to the expert team we’ve grown around our mission. 🅰️ It’s beyond exciting to know that my work to ensure the quality of our results will help to inform technical decisions which shape the direction of planet-changing technology. "We extended an offer to him yesterday and were hoping to have an answer by now. We're looking for someone in this role who is decisive, maybe he's not the right person for us." 🙄 Unless you're hiring for a bomb squad technician, having a candidate take a few days to respond on an offer should be seen as an overwhelmingly positive reflection of their decision-making ability. Changing jobs is one of the most impactful and life-altering decisions that we make throughout our lives. For someone to give an instant answer on such a substantial decision, I would seriously question how much thought they're going to put into menial work tasks. When extending offers, provide a MINIMUM of 2-3 business days for a response. Anything less than that and I'd start to question the company's decision making much more than the candidate's. #HappyHunting
