Executive Director at Southern California Association of Governments

Couldn’t help taking a day for global transport policy with an awesome privilege to join Sec Toks Omishakin and the CalSTA delegation visiting LAMATA, which is reponsible for the transit system in Lagos, a mega city of 20+ million! Learned of the challenges and inspiring efforts underway toward a greener, inclusive and sustainable transport system under the brilliant leadership of Managing Director Akinajo and Hon Commissioner Osiyemi. Heard some consistency with #ConnectSoCal. Truly appreciate the hospitality of the LAMATA team. #TransitBackbone #Safety #LowCarbonMobility #FreightModeShift #Sustainability #Equity #PublicPrivatePartnership #ConnectSoCal

California Transportation Secretary Visits Lagos to Collaborate on Sustainable Transit Today, Toks Omishakin, Secretary of Transportation for California, led a delegation from the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) to Lagos to initiate discussions on potential collaborations. The visit aimed to establish a series of conversations focused on key areas of mutual interest. Secretary Omishakin said the his agency was driving a California African partnership, highlighting transportation, technology, energy, and agriculture as key sectors for collaboration. He also announced plans to bring a team of investors to Lagos by the second quarter of 2025, demonstrating California's commitment to fostering tangible projects. The CalSTA delegation was warmly received by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi and the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, and her management team. Mrs. Akinajo expressed gratitude for the delegation's interest and provided a comprehensive overview of Lagos's ongoing transportation initiatives. Mrs. Akinajo specifically emphasized Lagos's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. The discussions explored potential synergies between California's expertise and Lagos's development plans, focusing on sustainable solutions for transportation, energy production, and agricultural practices. Other notable attendees included Kome Ajise, Executive Director of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), Alana Sanchez and Giles Giovinazzi from CalSTA, Alex Ford of the Bay Area Council, and Tobi Karim from Sustainable Energy for All, further underscoring the diverse range of expertise involved in the partnership exploration. #LAMATA #KeepingLagosmoving #lasg
