Had the pleasure of being part of the screening of Stolen Time, a documentary about elder rights and accountability in the nursing home industry, told from a legal perspective. The screening was attended by Professor Fernando Torres-Gil, the first Assistant Secretary for Aging in the Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Thyonne Gordon, PhD, and Melissa Miller, Stolen Time protagonist. The discussion afterwards highlighted the importance of interdisciplinarity in identifying the most appropriate solutions in healthcare, particularly concerning elder rights. It’s critical to thoughtfully and patiently consider perspectives and experiences from all involved, whether from patients, family members, healthcare professionals, or others impacted by interactions within healthcare systems. Much work remains to be done, with many untapped areas to ensure elder/patient rights and accountability in the nursing home industry and across the broader healthcare systems. #elderrights #patientrights #accountability #healthcaresystems
