Spring 2024 Digital Marketing Internship at Value Building Materials I am thrilled to share my 11 week internship experience with Value Build Materials. Value Building Materials is a renowned building materials company serving as a one-stop destination for all project needs, offering a wide range of products from flooring to roofing and beyond. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Value Building Materials prides itself on providing top-quality products and exceptional customer service to clients across various industries.   As a graduate student pursuing my MS in Marketing at the University of Texas at Dallas, I had the privilege of securing an internship position as a Digital Marketing Intern at Value Building Materials. This opportunity closely aligned with my career aspirations and provided me with a platform to apply my academic knowledge in a real-world setting.   During my internship at Value Building Materials, I was primarily involved in digital marketing initiatives aimed at enhancing the company's online presence and driving customer engagement. Working closely with the marketing team, I contributed to various projects aimed at creating engaging content for social media platforms, developing, and executing email marketing campaigns, and optimizing website content for search engines.   One of the main projects I undertook during my internship was focused on enhancing the company's digital presence through strategic updates to the website and other online platforms. This involved enhancing the current website content, identifying areas for improvement, and developing a plan to implement changes to improve user experience and drive organic traffic.   Additionally, conducting competitor analysis allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of industry trends and identify areas for improvement within Value Building Materials' digital marketing initiatives. Through customer feedback analysis, I played a pivotal role in identifying common pain points and areas for enhancement, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of products and services.   I am grateful for the guidance and support I received from my manager and mentors at Value Building Materials. Day In the Life of my past Internship… I was asked to post on LinkedIn for an assignment and I was not sure of what to say until…I thought I would share a day in the life in my previous internship with the UTSA Dining team. Usually My day would start at 10am in the office and I would look at my assigned tasks for the day on my computer or IPad. Depending on the task, I would either go out and “table” or work on photography or graphic design for posters around campus about the dining locations. Then I would update these outdated posters and I would also help the dining team get feedback from real students as well as I would answer any questions they had. I had to learn all about the product which in this case was usually meal plans and help students navigate through their choices if they had questions. This internship helped me gain the experience I needed for my chosen career path, Business Marketing. I learned there are many sides of Marketing whether that was sitting at a desk working on instagram stories or highlights or even going out and talking to people. My favorite part about my Day in the Life as a Marketing Intern was when we got to learn how to use a cámara and lighting as well as make content including reels. The video below demonstrates one of my most recent days in my life when I worked there. I thought to include it as it portrays me in the environment I am describing. In the article, “The Importance of an internship: 5 critical reasons” it states that “getting work experience is…essential [in] starting your career as a young graduate” and I couldn't agree more. An internship helps young students, like myself, develop not only experience but also habits for the work field after college. Another article called, “Why you should have an internship in Marketing” states, “The internship allows you to gain real-world marketing experience. It allows [the appliance of] knowledge and skills acquired during your education in a professional environment.”. This is exactly what I was referring to, this internship opened the door to the marketing world for me and it helped me realize my goals as a marketing major while still being in college. Real experiences in the marketing world big or small, have made me a strong believer that Marketing is everywhere and every experience is a good one to have.
