Very topical this week, a worthwhile read for all interested in mutually beneficial relationships in business. Harvard Business Review, 'Power of Trust' highlights fairness as the key to establishing a trusting relationship between parties of unequal power. In industries with high churn rates, companies may not be aware of the low trust rate their customers have with them - or perhaps they are aware, but have no idea how to fix it. Flying back from the Affiliated Distributors Industrial and Safety Summit and collecting my notes on the plane, thought I’d share my top 2 observations. Please share yours if you attended. 1. Independent industrial distribution is alive and well. While there has been consolidation in the channel, it’s not nearly at the level of other distribution channels. 2. Both distributors and suppliers commented that “they know where their business needs to go but to not have the people or expertise to get there.” Said differently, the market is evolving faster than some businesses can adapt. There are countless opportunities to optimize GTM strategies, pricing strategy, upskill sales and pull profit levers.
