Every day, I'm more convinced that we are on the right track to make work more collaborative, creative, and frictionless. Our hope is that one day, people will look back at how knowledge workers and creatives used to work and just shake their heads in disbelieve at all the fake busy work that existed and still exists to this day. The mindless meta-data copying from one tool to another, the soul-eating participation in planning sessions while staring at a shared Word doc, and the countless hours wasted looking up something in some knowledge base only to put it on a slide somewhere else. The stuff that is called "work" today. All of this can be done so much better, while making the whole experience delightful, lightweight, and collaborative. The intelligent canvas release is an important first step in really shaking up how the future of team collaboration could look like. What makes this particularly exciting is that this is just the start of soooo much more to come that will blow Miro users away. Most importantly, though, it proved to us how quickly dozens of teams could swarm around an ambitious product vision and turn it into reality at an impressive speed. It was definitely one of the greatest privileges of my career to be in the middle of such an organizational turnaround. We will be shipping some really cool things over the next months and I personally can't wait to see how it will resonate with Miro users all over the world. Miro is one of my favorite tools. I spend a lot of time in Miro every day. It enables me to facilitate effective meetings and workshops where I easily can collaborate with teams and leaders and keep focus and engagement high. I really enjoy the many features that makes this possible. Last week I attended Miro’s Canvas 24 and hearing about the new features and capabilities made my day. I can’t wait to start experimenting with all the features (gasp - there’s 50 of them). I’m also excited by how Miro is shaping - what they are now calling - the Innovation Workspace. "None of our users asked for realtime collaboration. Why would we build it?" It's a question that might cross the minds of many product teams. But let’s flip the script. Just because users don't ask for a feature doesn’t mean it won’t transform their experience. During a fireside chat with Elad Gil, Dylan Field—Figma's co-founder & CEO—explained why they decided to "go all in on multiplayer", even if only a couple of users mentioned wanting the feature at the time. Most designers simply didn't see the need for realtime collaboration. But Dylan Field and his team saw the bigger picture. They understood that without multiplayer, working on the same design project could quickly turn into a frustrating "last edit wins" scenario. Imagine making an edit, only for your teammate's update to overwrite your work because data wasn’t synced in realtime. Not fun! So, Figma went all in on building realtime collaboration, despite the lack of user requests. It took nine months of hard work, but the result was a revolution in how design teams work together, turning what was once a "nice-to-have" into a "can’t-live-without" feature. The lesson? Don’t just listen to what users are asking for—anticipate what they’ll love once they have it.
