I got to try Meta's Orion AR glasses. A few observations: 1. The "fishbowl" feeling of most XR devices is gone. At 98g, they feel like regular glasses and with how the weight is distributed, I could picture wearing them for hours without discomfort. 2. The gaze tracking is on the level of Vision Pro's - a genuine surprise. For context, that was Apple's crown jewel feature in my eyes. 3. Field of view was so good that I didn’t even think about it. I only noticed when we pushed the multitasking limits with 3 simultaneous apps. 4. Most revealing moment? When the wifi dropped and the EMG band didn't fit my wrist (apparently, I have the smallest wrists they've tested 😅). The backup systems kicked in seamlessly. Good tech is about graceful fallbacks. 5. The leap from audio-only (Ray-Bans) to visual AR is striking. Seeing real-time object identification and spatial mapping drives home why visual AR is transformative. To be clear… this isn't a consumer device yet. But after 7+ years in AR, this was the first time I could imagine wearing full AR glasses all day. The gap between promise and reality in AR is finally starting to close. The future is in focus.

They just need to get the size down to Even Realities form factor and they will be successful. But I'm curious to see what folk like Even do in their 2nd / 3rd gen glasses to complete. Today they are my favourite glasses to wear in public that we can buy right now. I use them in my presentations already for teleprompter mode and it's game changer

"Apparently, I have the smallest wrists they've tested" Yet another reason diversity in tech is NECESSARY!

98g = regular glasses? Hmm. Not sure about that one. Mine are around 15g

This is impressive! How does the comfort and weight compare to other AR glasses you've tried?

Beautiful to see the same type of ‘stare into the empty handed future’ xR related images reposted for the last decade(s), and we seem still seem to be convinced that it is all about product features that drives the xR user acceptance and scaling for professional use ….future in focus…. Which one? Toys r us? It is all about (user generated) content, diversity of user profiles, collaboration, etc
