95% of meetings are a complete waste of time and energy. Yet many companies overuse them.
Meetings should drive creativity, not just relay info. Shifting to brainstorm-focused sessions could actually bring results.
This is the one thing I do not miss from a conventional work day. Probably one of the primary motivating factors of moving to freelancing is that you get work and you do it and meet with team members only when required and necessary. You don't need to deal with any of the bullsh*t that involves hours of listening to talking heads that doesn't make anyone a better employee.
But to play Devils advocate here.... How will we ever discuss what we're going to talk about in the meeting about the meeting about the meeting were having in 6 weeks?
Meetings can be productive if structured well. Key is clear agenda, time limits, and actionable outcomes. Quality over quantity always wins.
Meetings should be about progress and wins, not just ‘showing up’—focus is key.
Easy way to curb that: do the math and add up the salary of everyone in the meeting. How much is that meeting going to cost? Is it worth it?
Agreed! So much time could be saved if we streamlined processes and focused on the essentials. It’s amazing how much more productive teams can be when they focus on results, not meetings. Curious if any companies have actually measured the impact? 🚀 P.S. This is coming from someone who was a customer manager in global company from 9 to 5, and is now working as an entrepreneur.
I hate meetings with no agenda. I’ve seen 15 min check ins are better than one hour meetings. This is also part of agile methodology.
I'm pretty sure 95% of my best ideas come to me during a meeting about why we shouldn't have so many meetings.
