I was reviewing training content about emotions, not only identifying them but also managing them, and the analogy to a beach ball was made. If you hold a beach ball under water, no matter the energy you devote to it, the ball will eventually pop up… And might even bop you in the face. Emotions are the same. You can ignore them, hide them, compartmentalize them, but they will eventually surface. The training encouraged participants to identify an emotion, including the intensity, and manage how they react to the emotion. Self-awareness is the first step, which includes not only recognition of the emotion but how your reaction to that emotion will impact others. This is the foundation of emotional intelligence. The next step is self-management, which is, well, managing how you react amid that emotion or a stressful situation. Is your heart racing? Have you lost your breath? Are your hands sweaty? Those are signs you may be experiencing an amygdala hijack. If unaddressed, this can last up to 18 minutes! That’s a long time to make a mistake in your communications. You determine the outcome by what you do next. Interested in self-management? Good! Start by pausing and taking a breath, then take a few minutes to reflect and assess the situation. Based on the situation, is there a way to relieve the pressure? Why are these steps necessary during a stressful or negative situation? Taking these steps and waiting the hijacker out will likely result in a more productive outcome when you make your next move. Insights from a PharmD & an Executive Coach. First hand experiences give us the most real feedback and the most profound life lessons I had the privilege today of spending the day at a busy local healthcare facility I got to witness first hand the diversity in patient cohort, the complexity of procedures carried out by healthcare professionals, the intensity of their day to day roles and the level of compassion, empathy and patience they display throughout their day, and I truly take my hat off to them Its one thing to talk about the nuances of communication in this space the way I do on here, but getting to be an active audience in real time amidst all the action was not only insightful, but also validating for my brand, messaging and the services I offer to my clients to help them better, more effective, authentic and empathetic communicators Another observation I made is the level of teamwork across all levels that happened in this facility to ensure that its run like a well oiled machine while delivering exemplary experiences to their patients to make them come back for more and build trust. I've learned that I need to incorporate this to a greater degree in my coaching than what I currently am doing All in all it was an eye opening experience with some valuable lessons taught that I've now added to my toolkit in making more engaging content and concepts to coach my clients in Do Share in the comments below any eye opening, life changing first hand experiences you had (professionally or otherwise) that changed the trajectory of your life, your mindset, values, beliefs and how you show up in the world

When you look at the photograph below... what is there for you? Please feel free to add your immediate responses in the comments! I am thoroughly enjoying my Insights Discovery Accreditation course this week. Insights is an amazing tool to enhance self-awareness and reflection to support us in being able to recognise, adapt to and connect with others by understanding personality preferences. One of the Jungian preferences which we talk about is that of the 'Perceiving Function' - How we view things! - Sensation vs Intuition... 'Sensation' refers to the things you can touch, objects, tangible elements e.g. the kite in this photo! 'Intuition' refers to things that are more abstract, feelings and bigger picture e.g. happiness. We all may use elements of both, but will likely have a preference/ 'go to' for one over the other! This is one small but important part of understanding the make up of our colour energy preferences through Insights, which can in turn help us as individuals and as teams to enhance many things, including: ✔collaboration ✔communication ✔relationship building ✔trust ✔knowledge and self-awareness I am excited to be putting my new learning into action and delivering group, team and individual coaching sessions using Insights! If this is something that you would like to know more about, please get in touch! 🤔 Does it really matter if we trust our colleagues? We think so. Whether you're line managing, leading meetings, or partnering with others on projects, a team who (genuinely) trust each other is a happier and more efficient one. If you: ➡️ feel like there are frustrations being left unsaid, or comments made behind closed doors ➡️ suspect your colleagues aren't saying what they actually think ➡️ struggle to let go or delegate in case your colleague 'gets it wrong' ➡️ are interested in learning more about a coaching approach to these frustrations ... then our free coaching introduction to 'high trust' is for you! 📆 Thurs Oct 17 | 6:30-7:30pm | Online | FREE Plus, we'll share more about how a coaching approach plays out at Resurgo, what our teams look like, and opportunities to join us. Yesterday I had the pleasure and privilege of joining a Time to Think session, 'Listening to Liberate', facilitated by Linda Aspey. The clue's in the name, but it really was a freeing experience and gave me some valuable gems to take away with me for my own coaching practice. As a recovering perfectionist, I often worry about not having exactly the right tools in my coaching toolbox or needing to find the perfect, incisive question to ask my client next. Really, though, the most effective coaching tool I can use as a coach is giving my undivided, generative attention. Holding a safe space, with a promise not to interrupt unless asked, facilitates an environment in which the coachee can find the freedom to reach deep, deep levels of quality thinking. And that in itself is a transformative experience, regardless the decisions or actions that might follow. Who knew that the simple statement 'I promise not to interrupt' could be so powerful?! For me, this approach allows me to stop striving so hard and to find ease in my practice. And I'm excited to explore how I might apply these learnings more, both in my coaching and in life in general. 🙌 Linda runs this session for free on a monthly basis. Do check it out! https://lnkd.in/esfgwtVG

One of the most powerful practices as a coach and a supervisor is the power of listening. Each month, we host mini-supervision experiences for coaches to engage in Listening Partnerships so they can access supervision in some form. It's important to us to ensure our services are accessible to all and we know not all coaches are in the position to invest financially...this way, there's no excuse for a coach in our community not to receive supervision even in a small way. But, we often get asked, what is listening partnerships...so have a little read of this post to find out a little more. 🔍 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀? Listening partnerships offer a dynamic way to grow, learn, and connect with fellow coaches. Thanks Coaching.com for giving us the opportunity to hear Steven Rogelberg's wisdom on building relationships and everything people really need at work (like connection, significance, purpose, being valued) and in all areas of their lives and off course in a business (where humans are still present), with the 1:1 meeting approach. Then engagement, loyalty and productivity etc, goes UP! Brilliant!! His book Glad We Met: the Art and Science of 1:1 Meetings is a must read. Lots of his interviews are available here https://lnkd.in/eRY3CQpi
