Accountability How does one take accountability in the cannabis world and does it matter? It does to me, and I’ll make a bet it does to your people and the companies you work with. Where it leads is simple; it brings you and your organization from a place of victim behavior and being powerless to being powerful. When I worked on Wall Street, I was shown and taught the accountability ladder; it made so much of sn impact that I was asked to speak about it all across the United States to thousand of employees, with the goal simply to show how you and your organization can be powerful and thrive forward toward success. This works in cannabis too, it doesn’t matter that this industry is hard, the rules and regulation make it difficult, the list goes on and on. We can do better as an industry, we can leave the victim attitude behind, we can lead from a powerful space. The first step is knowing where you are, where your organization is or where one of your employees is landing right now. Some of us are simply unaware; it’s when you live in the , “I don’t know space”, you are more often than not blissfully unaware. It’s not knowing that there is an issue or problem or not knowing your business ins and outs. When was the last time you digged and truly looked under all the rocks, are you aware? Once you aware, the victim mentality can take hold easily, blaming others for the issues or circumstances that brought you to this place. Who are you blaming for the issues? Does it help you move forward by blaming others? The answer is no, it doesn’t what happens is it keeps you stuck. Are you just waiting and hoping for the prices to stabilize? For thr taxes to come down? These behaviors lead you to be powerless for the future, you have to cross the line to climb the ladder of success. Acknowledge reality: What is your reality? Knowing is the first step in moving forward, getting real is hard but when you do it is very sobering and liberating because it will show you what you need to do. It’s scary sometimes to look under the hood, or even to admit reality(hint hint: this is hard in your personal life too) Just own it, say it out loud put it on blast. I messed up that deal, I made a poor choice with a vendor, etc. how can you fix it or move forward without owning it, the truth is you can’t without owning up to what truly is happening you just sit in victim, blaming others, and powerless space, and that doesn’t help anything. The amazing thing is once you acknowledge reality, own whatever is happening, that is when you can begin to find solutions. (Hint hint: you don’t have to do this alone, you have a team, you have colleagues , we have resources) Then pick one, and do it, just do it, just start. Congratulations you are now in a position of power, powerful and responsible! Im ready to be powerful, what about you?
