CHOOSE A NUMBER I sat down to describe a workshop about the Opportunity Solution Tree and how it connects to the topic of a Product Lab, which I’ve been exploring in my recent posts. It turned into a PDF — just a couple of pages with bullet points and a humorous illustration of a Christmas tree 🎄 where someone hangs Opportunities and Solutions as decorations, with the North Star shining brightly at the top. Beautiful! And then I found myself in the same mental trap that our brains often create when we get obsessed with an idea — I started thinking in a tunnel-vision mode, convinced that this workshop is something absolutely everyone needs, no exceptions! Next, I sent the PDF to a few people and got feedback: the Opportunity Solution Tree isn’t yet a well-known framework that can stand as a brand on its own, like MVP. Surprise, surprise — I need to approach this from the angle of the problems it solves… In other words, the problem (or opportunity) here is that I don’t have evidence that you (my readers and followers) have the need for a pre-holiday workshop where you can set goals and design experiments to achieve them. To turn this problem into an opportunity, here are some possible solutions: 1. Create a survey to identify which problems resonate rationally with you and what audience you belong to. 2. Write an article about my implementation of the Opportunity Solution Tree on a practical level to give you a glimpse of the “product.” 3. Share a personal, emotional story about how I discovered this framework and the need it helped me address so you can feel if this tool resonates with you. Please comment with the number that works best for helping you understand the value of the learning and training products: 1 - The problems it aims to solve. 2 - A practical case study and demonstration. 3 - An emotional story of how it helped. If you also share why that choice works for you, it would be like a real-life discovery process ❤️🙏 #NOOSA

Just wrapped up another Message Clarity Workshop. Here's what I've learned after running 101 of these suckers... 1. The best questions to ask to get to true message clarity are the big rock questions. 2. People have a really hard time answering "What is it?" What does it do?" and "Why does it matter?" in a way that can be applied across marketing channels. 3. Achieving tacit understanding with your message hits different than being perfectly understood by your audience. 4. It's common for tech founders running Series [X] companies to change their minds...often from moment to moment. 5. A successful workshop starts by building cameraderie with the founder and team. 6. The output of the workshop has a better chance to be used (and successful) if you call out work sitting on drives as the enemy of progress. 7. Simple is most definitely NOT easy. People have a really hard time getting to the essence of their product. 8. The most powerful approaches are the simple ones that people tend to dismiss. Perhaps they dismiss because it's too hard? Hmm.... 9. Message clarity is not just simple words. It's a combination of simple words with context, relevance, and the right perspective. 10. The right perspective always belongs to the buying audience, but the perspective of the founder is almost as important for the success of the message. 11. I have waaay more of these lessons, and if that would be useful for your own message clarity, I'll share more in another post. Just be sure to ask me to in the comments. #BOOMshockalocka 🤘👊💥😎
