When we think about funding gender equity, our minds often go to the relatively small group of funders dedicated to supporting causes for women and girls. However, this excellent piece by The Bridgespan Group highlights a broader perspective: grant funders should consider how gender inequity intersects with various issue areas, even those we might not traditionally associate with it. This insightful article is a powerful reminder that addressing gender equity isn’t limited to specific programs—it’s a lens that can be applied across all sectors. 📖 Read more here:

Companies and funders risk “leaving impact on the table” by not applying a gender equity lens broadly, says recent research. Why? For one, women are disproportionately affected across issue areas. And not only are women broadly affected across issue areas, they’re often deeply disadvantaged—especially those who face intersectional discrimination. I appreciate this Candid blog on ways to elevate gender considerations in fundraising and beyond. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gzkaz7Jh

To achieve equitable and lasting change, we must pay attention to the on-the-ground realities of how society works—realities that are shaped profoundly by gender. 👩🎓 Women account for two-thirds of adults globally who are unable to read 👩💼 Of the 20 million people displaced by climate change every year, an estimated 80 percent are women 👩⚕️ Women spend 25 percent more time in poor health relative to men 👩🌾 More than half of all women who work are in the informal economy - with the number rising to 90 percent in developing countries As my dear colleague Debby Bielak said, “The fact is, many funders don’t consider #genderequity when they think about impact, and even when they do, they approach gender only as its own discrete program area. But gender matters in every issue area, so the opportunity here goes far beyond ‘gender funders.’ It is an opportunity for every funder.” My colleagues recently published a report that explores five practices that can help any funder in any field increasingly consider gender in their grantmaking. Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and vital contributions of rural women around the world. On average, women make up over 40% of the agricultural labor force in developing countries. They work long days, often balancing farming with unpaid care and domestic tasks, all while navigating laws and social norms that limit their opportunities. Despite the challenges, rural women are the backbone of their communities—nurturing families, driving local economies, and supporting the next generation. It's time we recognize their impact and amplify their voices in decision-making processes. Let's stand with rural women, acknowledging their hard work and advocating for gender equity. #ProjectFury #InternationalDayOfRuralWomen #EmpowerHer #RuralWomen #GenderEquality

Happy International Women’s Day! Today, let's celebrate the achievements of women and acknowledge the work that still needs to be done. As we celebrate women, it's important to remember that women around the world are disproportionately affected by climate change. Climate change is set to leave 236 million more women and girls hungry by 2030, twice as many as men. Prioritizing gender equity, education, women’s health, and job opportunities by investing in the care economy would go a long way towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all. #InternationalWomensDay #ClimateChange #genderequity #investinwomen

Tomorrow marks International Women's Day, and this year's theme is: "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress." Investing in women isn't just the right thing to do—it's essential for human rights, #socialjustice, and sustainable development. When women advance, society does too. Working together to push forward for gender equality is greater than ever. Here’s why: - Prevent over 342 million women and girls from living in poverty by 2030. It is critical to break the cycle of poverty and strengthen communities. - Gender-responsive budgeting needs to be the norm, ensuring resources for women’s well-being and essential services, especially in light of increasing inflation and long-drawn conflicts. - Reform of economic systems to end the exploitation and inequality faced by women. - Climate financing offers a chance to build a green economy that shifts towards a care society, where unpaid care work is valued, there is shared caregiving, along with #socialprotection. - Increased support to feminist organizations can drive change for gender equality and societal progress. We at SOS Children's Villages International believe that investing in women goes beyond financial support; it entails creating environments that enable women to build resilience, thrive and reach their full potential. Let's uphold human rights principles and use #InternationalWomensDay as a catalyst for advancing the SDGs for a more equitable, sustainable, and inclusive future, where no woman is left behind. #InvestInWomen #GenderEquality #SDGs #IWD2024

💭Should climate, health or say, education-focused work be necessarily informed by a gender lens? 📣The latest The Bridgespan Group report, titled 'Illuminating Impact: Why Gender Matters for Funders in Any Issue Area', is an easy, accessible and comprehensive guide to understand how gender matters in every issue area. Referred to at the recently concluded Skoll World Forum by The Bridgespan panelists, the report urges funders to think of impact in any area as intricately linked with the gender question. ⚖️ As an organisation working on shifting norms and changing mindsets on gender-based violence, we cannot agree more with Bridgespan's vision with this report: To achieve equitable and lasting change by paying attention to the realities that gender shapes. Gender equity is at the core of so many of the SDGs - including no poverty, quality education, and good health and well being. But the gap between genders is still so significant, especially in emerging markets - whether it relates to job opportunities, access to financing or societal norms. In this blog with EMpower—The Emerging Markets Foundation and AVPN I discuss why it is essential that philanthropic funders incorporate a gender lens into their approach. https://lnkd.in/ecmRGjus
