Six common mistakes made by some mainstream NGO’s when seeking to align their funded PURPOSE with local Aboriginal community's needs 1. Lack of Meaningful Consultation Fail to involve the Aboriginal community in decision-making processes, resulting in projects that do not meet community needs or aspirations. 2. Ignoring Community Needs Prioritise organisational agendas over understanding and addressing the specific needs and aspirations of the Aboriginal community, leading to projects that are not relevant or beneficial. 3. Neglecting Community-Driven Objectives Overlook the importance of prioritising community-driven objectives in favor of organisational objectives, which can lead to projects that lack community support and fail to achieve desired outcomes. 4. Surface Level Understanding of Motivations Fail to deeply reflect on the underlying motivations driving projects in the Aboriginal space, which can result in initiatives that are driven more by organisational interests than genuine community needs. 5. Tokenistic Engagement Engage with the Aboriginal community in a tokenistic manner, such as through superficial consultations or minimal involvement, which undermines trust and leads to projects that do not effectively serve the community. 6. Use R'DAGED instead of GEDDAR R'DAGED focuses on quick, standardised solutions with minimal community input, prioritising efficiency and compliance over flexibility and adaptation. Reflection and feedback are limited, restricting responsiveness to community’s mom-identified needs. GEDDAR approach is inclusive, flexible, and culturally sensitive, focusing on long-term impact through continuous feedback, accountability, and adaptable, community-centred solutions that empower local Aboriginal communities. PURPOSE is one of seven keys to successfully engaging, connecting and building strong and sustainable relationships with your local Aboriginal community. Are you curious about how your NGO navigates the delicate balance R'DAGED and GEDDAR ? Today, 27 June is Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day – a day designated by the United Nations to highlight the potential of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) to transform #economies, foster #job creation and promote equitable economic #growth. According to the UN, MSMEs account for 90% of businesses, 60 to 70% of employment and 50% of GDP worldwide. They are the backbone of societies everywhere. To fulfil this role, they need policies that support and nurture the important role that they play in our economies. Supporting and promoting the interests and needs of small businesses across the island of Ireland is a key priority for Chartered Accountants Ireland in the coming year under the leadership of recently elected President Barry Doyle. As the backbone of the domestic economy, in the run up to the next general election in #Ireland, the Institute is determined to amplify the voice of the small business community in our representations to Government. Our 2024 Survey of Small Businesses remains open and we invite all members working in the SME sector to share their views with us to help inform the basis of this important campaign. ✍ 👨💻Complete the survey 📝📝 https://lnkd.in/ekeKgdP5 Read more about the events and resources the UN has made available to mark this day https://lnkd.in/eeaWrdkK Barry Dempsey Susan Rossney Jeremy Twomey Brendan O'Hora Cróna Clohisey Joan Curry, FCA Pamela McCreedy FCA Sinead Donovan Conal Kennedy Jill Farrelly MPRII Stephen Lowry Elaine O'Regan

📢 Call for Submissions - 16 Days of Activism 2024 📢 Starting on 25th November 2024, we’ll be sharing 16 pieces of anonymous writing to raise awareness about gender-based violence and its impacts. These submissions will be published on liftorg.co.uk and read aloud on our founders podcast 'Ruled by Magpies' 🌍 Why this project matters The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign running from November 25th to December 10th. It’s a time dedicated to shedding light on the pervasive issue of gender-based violence and standing in solidarity with those affected. This year, we are inviting you to contribute your voice through writing—whether it’s a personal reflection, a poem, a short story, or any other creative form that speaks to you. ✏️ How to take part If you feel moved to share something, your writing can be a way to start a conversation, offer insight, or simply raise awareness. Your submission will remain completely anonymous—so whether you choose to share something deeply personal or a creative interpretation, your privacy is respected. 📧 Submit your piece anonymously via the form below or by emailing [email protected]. A gentle reminder 🧡 Before submitting, we encourage you to check in with yourself. Writing about gender-based violence can be emotional, and it’s important that you feel in a safe and supported space to do so. Please don’t put yourself at risk—your well-being is the most important part of this process. Take the time you need, and only share if it feels right for you. Normally my postings on LinkedIn are related to my role at the Alberta Energy Regulator or about matters related to the energy sector. Today, as someone that has family members that suffer from migraine, I wanted to share information about "Migraine Awareness Month" that takes place every June. Below is a link on a Canadian campaign to go "Out of Office for Migraine Awareness" for the month. Two key items from this link: 1) "Migraine remains underdiagnosed and stigmatized in the workplace, leading to profound impact on work performance and well-being"; and 2) "In Canada, migraine is a leading cause for workplace absenteeism, presenteeism and costs related to missed work days". I've put some other links in the comments below. https://lnkd.in/gjzvHNhd https://lnkd.in/gjzvHNhd
