Today's tip is all about reflection. Looking back on your year with curiosity and intention, like a scientist reviewing an experiment.

Hi again, and welcome to day four of the MPC Advent Calendar, where each day we'll open a window to a business tip you can implement right now so that you're able to relax over the Christmas break. And you can relax because you've put in place solid strategies that will make sure you're able to hit the ground running in your business in the new year. And today's tip is all about the power of reflection. Once you think back to this time last year, what was on your mind? What was your focus going to be for this year? What aspirations did you have for the year ahead? What do you want your business to look like now? Now, when I say aspirations, I'm not sure about New Year's resolutions here. I'm talking about your true commitments, your true intentions for the way you want your business to be now, today, when you were looking ahead this time last year. No. You may be thinking, well it didn't quite work out that well, but the fact that you're still here would suggest that you've achieved a great deal. Despite what the year may have thrown at you, so. Look back at what you've achieved. Ask yourself. Did you keep all your commitments? Did you lead yourself well? Did you lead your people well? Did you control your finances? Did you take the opportunity to train and upskill yourself so that you can be the best version of you? Did you take the opportunity to train and upskill your team so like they can be the best they can be? Now I realise that for some people it's been a really incredibly challenging year, but you can still learn from it. So what I want you to do is I why don't you put your lab coat on? I want you to become a scientist and I want to look at your business the way a scientist would look at an experiment. And the great thing about experiments is experiments never fail. I don't think in terms of what you can control. What went well and if you did more of it would really ramp up the growth in your business next year? What didn't go so well that you can learn from. And you can do less of or even totally eradicating the new year. Remember, it's not a mistake until the second time you do it, so let yourself off. It's OK as long as you learn from it. And ask what works OK, but some room for improvement in the new year. What else? What new knowledge did you gain this year? What new knowledge do you need to gain next year? What beliefs do you need to drop so that you can be even more successful next year? What New believes will serve you better in the new year? And looking back on this year, what are you most grateful for? Now, the reason for reflection is to learn. It's not to beat yourself up. It's definitely not to compare yourself against other people's personal or business achievements. Reflect and learn, because as Einstein once said, insanity is doing the same thing, expecting to get a different result. So reflect, learn, discover and plan for change and then give it some momentum in the new year. Or even better, start today. And after that reflection, consider these questions. What are three things you need to start doing next year? What are three things you need to stop doing in the new year or better still today? And what are three things you will continue to do or improve, improve doing in the new year? And then finally, ask yourself how serious are you about having a great year next year for your business on a scale of one to 10? Where 10 is the only answer. It only works so give it a go. Take this from theory to practice the pastry because you will thank me later. Now you go out there and make it a cracking day.
