I know you’re ready to pitch, but resist the temptation to do so. It’s tempting to dive straight into your pitch. (It’s your comfort zone) But the first meeting isn’t the place for a hard sell. A pitch out of place can kill trust before it even begins. Here’s what to do before pitching your fund to an LP: 👉 Establish rapport. 👉 Ask questions about investors’ investment goals, preferences, and challenges. 👉 Listen actively and reflect on what they share. 👉 Determine if your fund aligns with their interests before diving into details. 👉 Demonstrate you are an expert worth being listened to. 👉 Agree on the purpose of the meeting ( ❗ Spoiler alert - the goal of a 1st meeting is to have a 2nd meeting) Resist the temptation to pitch, and you’ll lay the foundation for a stronger partnership.
