Google, tracking and cookie classification - the triple affiliate threat and not in a good way. The Affiliate & Partner Marketing Association State of the Nation report asked brands, agencies and publishers what impact they have on their investment and confidence in the channel. The findings are a wake up call for the industry but they are recognised and I think there is a determination to put on a united front in tackling them and - where possible - offering practical advice and solutions. Are you struggling with the cookie consent topic in the affiliate channel in light of ICO and Google guidance? The Affiliate & Partner Marketing Association will issue a top-level explainer shortly... What would be great is to use some real-world examples from brands. I know this is a sensitive topic (and the consent banners are publicly available), but it would be great to add some context to the words on the page. Brands are unknowingly sabotaging their affiliate revenue with 1 simple setting. And it's easier to fix than you'd think. 🔴 I often see landing page URLs with the following UTMs: ↳ /kitchen/?utm_source=affiliate&utm_medium=networkname 🟢 The correct structure would be: ↳ /kitchen/?utm_source=networkname&utm_medium=affiliate The wrong setup will cause the Affiliate channel to miss revenue in GA4. Source defines the name of the platform where the click came from. Medium defines the channel where the click came from. Make the change and get your revenue back! PS: the same goes for UTM-like parameters for other tools like Piano (at), Piwik (pk), etc. <><><> I help DTC brands scale their affiliate programs.
