Are international students getting the careers support they need? Some challenging data in this Wonkhe piece and a call to arms to universities to invest in careers services and targeted support for these cohorts. 'Whatever is done on immigration or cost of living, these are the sorts of perceptions that feed back and around inside countries. A good time to refocus on tackling these figures would be now.' https://lnkd.in/eV9Pn4xJ This is precisely why we developed UK Career Ready with our friends at Shortlist.Me: https://lnkd.in/e6uq6ky5 An employability development programme designed specifically for international students at every stage of their student journey. "It is so well made and really makes me feel like there are people out there worried about International students getting a job after graduating. Very reassuring on my end and I feel less anxious about attending career fairs, reaching out to the careers service, and networking.'' The programme develops students’ understanding of the UK labour market, from part time jobs to graduate roles, and empowers them to improve their employability independently, alleviating key pinch points for careers services.

Hi LinkedIn! A new post about the free skills assessment offered by the Overseas Qualifications Unit is now available. Discover all the essential details by reading more in our full article 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 #skillsassessment #victoria #qualification #migrationnews
📜 Recently, a message appeared on the Victoria state website stating that The Overseas Qualifications Unit (OQU) has reopened for state applicants. The pause was due to a high number of applications to process. You might be wondering what OQU is…? Let's explore Victoria’s example. 💡 Let's start with the fact that each state in Australia has its unit (OQU) offering free and confidential qualification assessment services to have your qualifications recognized in Australia. ✏️ In a nutshell, OQU assesses overseas qualifications using national assessment guidelines introduced by the Government. Whether you hold degrees, technical certifications, or higher-level vocational qualifications obtained abroad, OQU utilizes national assessment guidelines to provide you with written advice on how your qualifications compare within the Australian education system. Why might you need these assessments?🤔 The overseas qualifications assessments can be used for general employment purposes only – if your job doesn’t require registration, licensing, professional membership, or other industry requirements. Assessments serve as proof of qualifications for: 🔸 Prospective employers, who will be able to understand your level of education or qualification 🔸 Resumes/CVs 🔸 Professional organizations and educational institutions, including professional bodies or admitting institutions ☝ It's important to keep in mind that there are also exclusions. The Overseas Qualifications Unit does not evaluate degrees or qualifications obtained in Australia, overseas short courses (less than one-year full-time study), single-subject certificates or diplomas, overseas licenses, permits, or work experience documents, or overseas apprenticeships or trade qualifications. 💬 Have you ever gone through the assessment process with OQU or a similar entity? We'd love to hear about your experience and any insights you can share with fellow applicants. #assessment #Victoria #OQU #MigrationAustralia #MigrationAgent

Regarding the student visa caps, I think we have forgotten the role of education. 1. Canadian higher education system is different than apprenticeship systems at other countries. University departments are not like parts of assembly lines to respective sectors. The knowledge flows from faculty research to students. Once graduated, they form the pool of new entrants to labor force, which companies can draw from subject to market conditions. 2. Labor shortages are addressed by wage increases first. And then a combination of skills training (ideally paid for by the future employers) and immigration. 3. It is the job of education sector to make new entrants to the labor force competitive subject to their skills and attitude. But this objective applies only to the current population. For foreign students, the idea is that if they attend the same programs as Canadian students, they will learn the same skills and be useful to the companies, in case they decide to stay after graduation. But this logic breaks down, if a) the program are specifically designed for foreign students b) the skills imparted are not useful to the employers c) kind of students we are getting aren't employable in long term

It has been seven years since I started my journey in educational consulting and career counseling. It's wonderful to have so many options when it comes to selecting study destinations, universities, courses, and educational consultants. The iconic office buildings and eye-catching signs of educational consultants in major cities cover the skyline. At Oxford Academia, we have helped thousands of students with their careers, regardless of their circumstances and chosen destinations, even if they decide to study in their home country. It's not about how many students we serve each year; it's about how much we can ease their journey and help them find placements. However, there are currently some restrictions on the most common study destinations. I have learned that students are not only looking to study but also seeking job opportunities with the goal of earning and learning. Due to visa restrictions, many students are failing to enroll in their home country. Parents should also understand the facts about visa restrictions and guide their children to apply and study wherever they can. The situation will definitely be settled. I hope that the policymakers of those countries will take a moment to put themselves in the shoes of these students and create policies that increase the joy of the journey while reducing its uncertainty and stress. Let's hope for a better future for the next generations!

This is absolutely shocking and makes me ashamed to be a tax paying member of the electorate and business owner. Should I be doing more to lobby for change to this disastrous scheme that works for no one? All growing businesses are struggling for talent and bright young students are clamouring for apprenticeships but HM Government continue to make changes that make their unworkable Apprenticeship scheme even worse! Spending a significant amount of time working with and preparing the students on the #digitalfutures programme for work, it breaks my heart to be thinking 'Why do I bother?'. It's a national disgrace and needs to be sorted double quick if we are going to have any chance of securing some benefit from the disaster that (so far) is Brexit. #angry #sad #education #utc #apprenticeships https://lnkd.in/eWqzjkbS
