Great IGA conference on numerical methods in Florida! Last week I was in St. Augustine, Florida, attending a great exchange on the newest development in the field of isogeometric analysis (IGA). A BEM or FEM based on the IGA is able to compute directly on CAD geometries. Especially, the immersed methods are of high importance, since they allow the simple incorporation of real life CAD designs with trimming. This will be the next step from the scientific community to engineering applications. For me personally, the industry panel moderated by Yuri Bazilevs really pinpointed this direction. I had the chance to present our contribution of an IGA BEM solution with the application to wind turbines. We use the method to compute the acoustic radiation of the wind turbine based on mechanical excitation by the drive train in our research project SteelBlade. Afterwards, we had some really good discussions on how to further develop the methods. Besides the technical topics, the conference venue in the oldest city in the US was impressive. Even though, I was a slightly scared of walking near rivers and bushes after visiting the alligator farm. 😟 #iga2024 #simulation #acoustics
