Now more than ever we need to remember that no one really wins a war. Some might say that only relates to lives lost and that you can win in terms of political power but my reading of history suggests otherwise. And the cost is in far more than lives. Although those should be our first considerations. Military and civilian alike. The costs extend to the long term economic, structural and social impacts of war as well. Even the smallest of wars, the arguments we have between us, can often be microcosms of the same phenomenon. My hope for the future is that we all learn to see things less combatively and more cooperatively. Respectfully. We may come at problems differently, see the world differently. But the vast majority of us are still just people, who want to live our lives and raise our families safely and successfully, in peace. The peace that seems to have eluded our species, our planet, for as long as anyone can remember. Let's us not forget. But more than that, let us reflect and remember and learn from those lessons and the sacrifices made in pursuit of better, so we don't keep repeating them. Let's all try and be a small part in that quest for better. So everyone can win. Even at the micro-level. It all starts somewhere. https://lnkd.in/g78uTF-A

The Hundred Years' War was a lengthy conflict between the kings of France and England. Beginning in 1337 and lasting until 1453, the war endured for 116 years, with periods of peace interspersed between bouts of fighting. Interestingly, the name "Hundred Years' War" was coined much later, in the 19th century, to describe this extended conflict. Historians traditionally divide the war into three main phases: 1. The Edwardian War (1337-1360) during the reign of Edward III of England. 2. The Caroline War (1369-1389) during the rule of Charles V of France. 3. The Lancastrian War (1415-1453) named after the Lancasters, the royal house of England. The war began principally because King Edward III (r. 1327-1377) and Philip VI (r. 1328-1350) escalated a dispute over feudal rights in Gascony to a battle for the French Crown. However, the causes of the Hundred Years' War were multifaceted and evolved as different monarchs ruled. Some key factors include: - The seizure of English-held Gascony (Aquitaine, in southwest France) by Philip VI of France. - Edward III of England's claim to the French throne through his mother. - Edward III's military expeditions to expand English territories, protect trade routes, and acquire land for his nobles. - Charles V of France's ambition to remove English influence from French territories. - The internal conflicts and power struggles within the French nobility, exacerbated by the madness of Charles VI of France. - Henry V of England's desire to legitimize his rule in England and assert himself as the king of France through conquest. - The determination of the Dauphin, future King Charles VII of France, to reclaim his rightful inheritance and unify France under his rule. #mylineage #armor #armour #europeanhistory #heraldry #militaryhistory #medievalwar #medievalhistory #medievaltimes #medievalworld #middleages #kinghenry #kingofengland #emperor #Barbarossa #crusades #charlemagne #westfrancia #kingedward #knights #HolyRomanEmpire #medievalarmor #warriorhistory #medieval #medievalchivalry #edwardtheblackprince #Kingdom #henryvi #medievalknight #coatofarms https://lnkd.in/g___DENT

We should do everything possible to avoid war. But there are legitimate grounds for conflict. Tuesday Catechism Avoiding war "The fifth commandment forbids the intentional destruction of human life. Because of the evils and injustices that accompany all war, the Church insistently urges everyone to prayer and to action so that the divine Goodness may free us from the ancient bondage of war. All citizens and all governments are obliged to work for the avoidance of war. However, 'as long as the danger of war persists and there is no international authority with the necessary competence and power, governments cannot be denied the right of lawful self-defense, once all peace efforts have failed.’ The strict conditions for legitimate defense by military force require rigorous consideration. The gravity of such a decision makes it subject to rigorous conditions of moral legitimacy. At one and the same time: - the damage inflicted by the aggressor on the nation or community of nations must be lasting, grave, and certain; - all other means of putting an end to it must have been shown to be impractical or ineffective; - there must be serious prospects of success; - the use of arms must not produce evils and disorders graver than the evil to be eliminated. The power of modern means of destruction weighs very heavily in evaluating this condition. These are the traditional elements enumerated in what is called the "just war" doctrine. The evaluation of these conditions for moral legitimacy belongs to the prudential judgment of those who have responsibility for the common good. Public authorities, in this case, have the right and duty to impose on citizens the obligations necessary for national defense. Those who are sworn to serve their country in the armed forces are servants of the security and freedom of nations. If they carry out their duty honorably, they truly contribute to the common good of the nation and the maintenance of peace.” —Catechism 2307-2309 Catechism of the Catholic Church #heartlandvalues #faith #goodtobecatholic Image: St Michael the Archangel Mary Queen of America the Universe Shrine Orlando, Florida Image credit: r/Catholic

In this episode, John explains the numerous ways in which the French and Indian War (or Seven Years War) contributed to a growing divide between Great Britain and the 13 colonies of British North America. John talks about how the experience of the war, which ended the period of Salutary Neglect, brought the British and the colonists into much greater contact with one another and how that did a lot to damage their views of each other. John also discusses the massive amount of debt the British government took on to fight the war, how that pushed the British government to pursue policies that alienated the colonists, and how conflict with Native Americans exacerbated already existing tensions between the two sides. #ushistory #americanhistory #history #colonialhistory #frenchandindianwar #sevenyearswar #nativeamericans #pontiacsrebellion #lenapeindians #delaware #indians #neolin #britain #greatbritain #quarteringact #americanrevolution #navigationacts #mercantilism #apushistory #paxtonboys #pontiac #benjaminfranklin #frenchandindianwarsparkrevolution #indianwar #frenchwar #frenchandindian #frenchrevolution #indianrevolution #french

Tawfeeq is the Arabic word for divine providence. Finding the Washington History Seminar's Youtube channel and this webinar, "I Saw Death Coming," feels like tawfeeq to me because I often feel I am on a long journey to better understand this country I love and the awful things it has done and continues to do. For me, I know this much, it is not the country itself that inspires my love, but its best people, the people who have fought with words and arms to protect the basic rights of others and to quell or remediate the worst acts of her citizens. https://lnkd.in/g2DtWm62

This #StarwarsDay highlights the shift in the balance of the FORCE across the eternal conflict between tyranny and freedom. The starwars saga dynamic drives the narrative but also resonates with timeless themes of resistance against oppression and the pursuit of justice. Where the Empire, later succeeded by the First Order, represents the Dark Side of the Force in its governance and military might. It is characterized by authoritarianism, suppression of dissent, and use of fear to maintain control. While the leaders, like Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, who are strong with the Dark Side of the Force, use their power to manipulate and destroy, embodying the most brutal aspects of tyranny. While the resistance, often a group of rebels fighting against the oppressive rule of the Empire or the First Order. These resistance fighters are characterized by their diversity, resilience, and belief in the freedom of the galaxy from tyranny. They represent hope, the will of the people to fight against overwhelming odds, and the belief in the power of good over evil. The Force is NOW STRONG with Palestine and its Global Supporters .. no matter how hard the dark side tried to supress the truth of its brutality and oppression for more than 75 years! #MayThe4thBewithYou #FreePalestine #MayThe4th

MIDDLE EAST WWW-3= SENTIMENT WARNING AND UNIMAGINABLE INHUMANE BARBARIES AROUND THE CLOCK WHILE THE WORLD MOSTLY IGNORES this is one of the greatest self-enclosed/civilian-surrounded / little publicized disasters in human history (considering the major wars because there are over 100 armed conflicts out there... the old adage: "Who benefits?". Find what is going on there in this and other rare factual video news/ information broadcasters Is it one more of the warrior "single/ one, invisible, God" Who is blessing it as HE has done many times over the past centuries? Read also The Old Testament/ Torah/ Neviim/ Prophets/ Book of Kings/ Book of Esther to understand the past and current recorded warring historical conflicts From these pages, one will clearly realize that the tragic War of today is ultimately a multi-century-old (since Moses) accumulation of rage, revenges, treasons, surprise invasions, mistrust, disputes of "sacred" territory, fight for "gods" powers, etc, i.e., a result of the dark side of human beings Genetic studies show the significant affinity between Palestinians, Semitic groups/ancient tribes and other Arabs which proves that these several dozen local wars are between close offsprings (Adam's / Abraham's) which were to have solved their differences (millennia ago; but humans nature does not jibe well with these meretricious behaviors Thus, it is naive to think that the Middle East conflict (being Jerusalem the utmost disputed navel of the world) will end up with an honest permanent peace agreement

🕊️ Honoring Victory Day in Europe: A Call for Peace and Remembrance 🌍 As we commemorate Victory Day in Europe, it is crucial to reflect on the lessons of history and the current state of our world. The sacrifices made during World War II must never be forgotten, and the memory of all the victims serves as a poignant reminder of the horrors of war. 🕯️ In today's world, where conflicts and tensions persist, it is more important than ever to strive for peace and unity. We must work together to ensure that the tragedies of the past are not repeated, and that future generations can live in a world free from the ravages of war. 🤝 Let us remember the past, honor the fallen, and commit ourselves to building a future where peace prevails. Each of us has a role to play in promoting understanding, tolerance, and cooperation across borders. Together, we can create a world where the ideals of Victory Day - freedom, peace, and unity - are not just commemorated but lived every day. 🌹 #VictoryDay #Peace #Remembrance #NeverAgain #Unity

What a world we live in...
As #Ukrainian children went to school today, some in shelters, it is high time to remember that the war actually started in 2014, when I lost my home in Crimea, but some people lost their lives. The generation is growing up in war. And some of them have already lost their lives while the world waits and watches. The Third World War is starting now, with the death of all the international institutions and principles that were built and created after the Second World War and now mean nothing

Many are called, but FEW are chosen. REAL Christians are a MINORITY. Can't vote their way out of a wet paper bag. But their good EXAMPLE may save many. But FAKE Christians are the scribes and fairy-sees of our day, having NO power with God. The MEEK shall inherit the earth when God eliminates his enemies of falsehoods. Forget nations and get ready for one great Kingdom of God. My book on the good news of the Tribulation: TRIBULATION IS HOPE; THE LAST CALL. https://lnkd.in/gZqUFs3E
