🚨 Breaking News: Amazon Just Pulled the Plug on Freevee! 🚨 As a business strategist, I can’t help but see this as a masterclass in corporate strategy (with a side of drama)! 🎭 Let’s break down what this means for the streaming giant and what we can learn from it: ⏺️ Streamlining Operations: By consolidating Freevee into Prime Video, Amazon is likely aiming to cut costs and boost efficiency. A smart move in today’s competitive landscape! 📉✨ ⏺️ Focus on Core Offerings: This decision allows Amazon to double down on its main video service, enhancing the value for Prime subscribers. Who doesn’t want more bang for their buck? 💰💪 ⏺️ Data-Driven Decisions: With access to heaps of user data, Amazon is making informed choices that align with viewer preferences. It’s a reminder that analytics should drive our strategies! 📊🔍 ⏺️ Balancing Free vs. Paid Services: Keeping some content under the “Watch for Free” label shows a savvy approach to maintaining a freemium model within the Prime ecosystem. A little something for everyone! 🎁📺 ⏺️ Employee Reallocation: The transition of Freevee employees to Prime could demonstrates a commitment to retaining talent and knowledge during this shift. 👩💻👨💼 For business owners, Amazon's strategy is a powerful reminder to: 1. Regularly evaluate your product/service portfolio 🗂️ 2. Align operations with long-term goals 🎯 3. Make tough decisions to optimize resources 💡 P.S. I copied the text of this post up until the bullet points and chat GPT gave a near identical answer... I happen to dissagree with the decision being a masterclass. Somehere in the Amazon Corp the systems in place allowed for the creation of an unessisary service whos plan lacked the ability to become profitable and operated in conflict with existing company assets. There are things to be learned from this, but not as a sucess story of corporate strategy. The decision to end the little known Freevee service is somwhere from it being a liability to Amazon, to being an underporforming asset who's customer base represents a loss of potential Prime Video subscriptions. I think the best case here was that it was a deliberate A/B test, and/or they bought out competition early. But the availible public information doesn't directly draw that conclusion.
I’ve ended my subscription in response to Bezos’ cowardice. He shouldn’t own a newspaper.
I definitely see it as brand strengthening since FreeVee always seemed a bit confusing to me, but with Prime Video also having commercials, this makes a lot more sense and it'll probably get me to watch the content that was on FreeVee in a more centralized space.
Very informative, Thank you!
Whoops. FreeVee? Never heard of it until now. 😱

1dI've never subscribed to Prime on the grounds that I shouldn't have to pay a subscription and then pay again to watch premium content. I also don't buy from Amazon at all (difficult but I manage) because Bezos is a terrible human being. Cutting healthcare and company perks and engaging in illegal union busting because $15 is too much to pay your employees is the worst thing about our country - especially when the CEO-to-worker pay gap is the largest in industrialized human history. No, I don't support Bezos in any form. And writing about the "genius business moves" this company makes without mentioning the fact these moves usually largely undermine employees and precede price hikes for no reason other than corporate greed simply buys into the false notion of what it means to work in corporate America.
