💊The Drug Development Dilemma 💊 Despite the presence of over 4,000 biotech and pharmaceutical companies in the U.S., only 55 new drugs were approved by the FDA in 2023—up from just 37 in 2022. Yet, 44 new drug applications were rejected in 2022, and early reports for 2023 indicate at least 23 failures—including 17 new drug applications that did not receive approval. These figures underscore the persistent challenges and inefficiencies in drug development, highlighting an urgent need for improvement at every stage. Despite multiple advances, even including CRISPR, detecting and isolating the optimal cells is extraordinarily difficult.
