This week provides 11- 30 year olds with the chance to grow their life and work skills, build on their experience - even though they may not be in training or employment yet - and get connected with people who can support them on their journey to explore next steps, whatever's right for them. Yes, every single week, I have the incredible opportunity to welcome new faces to our team, guiding them on their first steps towards making a significant impact in the world of education. I am beyond grateful to work for a company that resonates so deeply with my own values. Join us for our Thriving From The Start (TFTS), in-person early careers mental health event centring on 'expectations', on Wednesday 13 November at 17.30. Starting a new career after leaving education can be an exciting,  and daunting time. It is also a time laced with ‘expectations’. Register now to attend this in-person event, which will offer an opportunity to explore this concept  from a variety of perspectives, including; · Exploring lived experiences of managing expectations (both our own and that of those around us), and associated feelings of anxiety, imposter syndrome and unhealthy perfectionism · Advice and tips on how to manage these feelings, and how to set boundaries to protect our wellbeing; how to say ‘no’ in the right ways · The expectations young people starting their careers have of their employers, and how workplaces can better be equipped to ensure that this matches the reality of working life with them · The expectations employers have of their early careers entrants and how these can be managed by setting positive boundaries · The expectations early careers entrants have of themselves and how to ensure these are wellbeing-centric. This is an open event. It is recommended for early Careers entrants (those in the first 5 years of their career), students due to complete their studies within the next 12- 18 months, Future Talent and Early Careers Recruitment and Development Teams, People managers and colleagues with an interest in the wellbeing of young  professionals. As we wrap up our team’s "Week of Understanding," we’re reviewing our progress against our mission to: 1. Raise awareness of learning and thinking differences (we call these LTDs). 2. Reduce the stigma associated with asking for accommodations that help people with LTDs. 3. Provide even more tools and resources to help people with LTDs thrive. 4. Today is #socialmobilityday in the UK. To improve social mobility in the UK, employers need to put socio-economic diversity, equity and inclusion at the heart of their organisations. The aim of this day is to improve awareness of what social mobility is, why it is important, and how organisations can take action. The campaign suggests people #sharemoments. Mine is the below which shows starting lines for talent are very different. I had a discussion with a senior partner in a major law firm (several years ago now) where there was still a perception that non-Oxbridge (and public school) trainees would not make good lawyers. I disagreed. We didn’t win the mandate for the search work! Different starting lines. There’s a lot to be said for the skills and attributes that those whose starting lines are further back bring to the workplace. Resilience. Determination. Fortitude. And many, many others. Diversity, equity and inclusion will only enrich the legal talent landscape. Recruitment should be broader than A levels results and the university attended. I will continue to have discussions where I challenge, debate, educate and enrich how we look at legal talent and careers. https://lnkd.in/ek3v7wEA
