The ground trembles as the last truck rolls into the stadium parking lot. It's 2 AM, and the real show is about to begin. A small army of workers swarms out, their headlamps cutting through the pre-dawn darkness. Within hours, a metallic behemoth will rise from the asphalt, ready to host one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. This is the world of concert staging, where logistics meets artistry. As music has evolved over the years, so have the stages. Concert stages used to be simple wooden platforms, today they have become huge structures that push the boundaries of engineering and imagination. A concert stage isn't just supporting the music anymore – it's part of the show. The concert stage industry is ripe with opportunities, from modular stage rentals for smaller venues to developing new technologies for immersive experiences. Sony Music Entertainment has formed a global joint venture with Los Angeles-based record label D36 to offer #SouthAsian artists a global platform. D36, formed in 2021, provides a platform for aspiring musicians from South Asia and its diaspora. The #partnership aims to foster collaborations between artists, expand the reach of #SouthAsiantalent in the US, and help break South Asian diaspora acts in key markets outside the US. The partnership will enable acts of South Asian heritage to cultivate a #worldwide fanbase, better connect diasporic audiences with talent in South Asia, and accelerate the community's visibility in international #markets, including America. The #SouthAsianmusic scene is experiencing a surge in global recognition, fueled by a rising demand for diverse musical experiences. D36's CEO, Abhi Kanakadandila, believes that this partnership will help support artistry agnostic of geography and provide an #infrastructure that can operate seamlessly across borders. The Epstein Family Amphitheater is a multi-use outdoor facility in the heart of the UC San Diego campus. SGM's P-6 POIs (42), i-5 POIs (10), G-Spot Turbo POIs (33), and G-Spot Turbo Stds (9) were incorporated into the design to support everything from prospective student tours to multi-act music festivals and everything in between. And of course the venue required fixtures that could withstand the weather and atmosphere so near the ocean. According to project manager, Howard Glickman, of Apiero Design: "The SGM fixtures have a design that separates them from other fixtures. We were sent several fixtures to demo while we made our choices, and we could tell the SGM units were different as soon as they were unpacked. They felt more solid, more robust, and had a nicer look than many other fixtures." When tasked with designing a stage for ITZY's high-energy performances across Australia, we faced a thrilling challenge: to create a dynamic environment that not only matched but enhanced the vibrancy of KPOP sensation ITZY. Objective: Create a stage that captures and amplifies the energy of ITZY, engaging thousands of fans from the moment the lights come up. Our Innovative Solution: Central to our design was a mid-stage rolling set piece, engineered with precision using CAD technology. This innovative feature allowed for fluid transitions and offered a versatile platform for ITZY's dynamic choreography. Complementing this were automated LED screens, which painted a vivid backdrop, adding layers of immersive visuals that captivated every fan in the audience. As ITZY took the stage, the interaction between their electrifying performance and our staging solutions transformed the concert into a spectacular event. The rolling set piece and vibrant LED displays did more than just serve as a backdrop; they enhanced every move and every beat, creating a palpable energy that resonated throughout the venue. The Impact: The result? A breathtaking spectacle that went beyond just a series of concerts. It was a groundbreaking event that not only celebrated ITZY's stellar performances but also underscored the power of creative stage design in elevating live music experiences.
