Is your thesis a confusing mess? Here's the fix: Every thesis needs a good fight. Your work needs to take a stand. This is your argument: The answer to your research question(s). A thesis argument map is the blueprint for this. Your thesis structure isn't just about chapters. It's not just numbered pages following IMRD. It's the skeleton of your argument. The argument map provides: No more muddled thinking or aimless writing. Avoid massive rewrites when your arguments don't connect. Build a logical flow that guides your reader to your conclusion. Don't just write a thesis. Take your argument into battle. Follow me to get 1 post smarter every day. Repost to help your friends learn this, too. P.S.: What's your strategy for building arguments? #writingtips #phd #research

Every time you review a paper, remember that you are only seeing the tip of the project. Every paper has a backstory: a lot of sweat equity, a lot of dreams, and time invested. Respect that backstory. In your review. Be constructive. Don't take cheap shots. Even if the paper isn't great. We can improve the climate of the academy by showing respect for the effort and courage required to submit papers to journals and conferences. #academiclife #academicwriting #reviewing

Is your writing hard to read? There’s a tool for that. It’s called the Flesch–Kincaid readability test. It rates text on a 100-point scale. The higher the score, the easier it is to read. 60 to 70 is ‘normal’. To improve your score: 1) Use shorter sentences 2) Use shorter words 3) Use fewer syllables 4) Avoid jargon Example: Difficult: "The profundity and complexity of a scientific theory can often obfuscate its underlying principles for non-specialists." Easy: "Scientific theories can be hard for non-experts to understand." Got it? Go run your content through it, and see how you score 👇
