From the reform of the 1970s to the advent of streaming and prestige television, change has always been an inevitable part of the #film industry. At the same time, the change that is happening now seems more monumental than the previous ones. Legacy studios are closing, jobs are being lost, and the future seems uncertain for many in the industry. And yet, as much as the upheaval of these old systems seems frightening, there is another way to view the picture - change for the better. The future of the #filmindustry is becoming more democratized, and the power is shifting. As old systems created by the gatekeepers of #filmmaking falter and become obsolete - new systems and voices can pave the way forward.

I’m so appreciative of all the acknowledgement of home-grown talent, inward investment, total worth of the cultural sector and industry and all… what I’m not that appreciative of that clearly there’s enough money exchanging hands. So, why is that, all this investment is left unchecked in terms of #SUSTAINABILITY! A few little caviats, and whatever infrastructure gets build could be supportive of a multitude of industries. There are four main pillars of sustainability: Human Social Economic Environmental It affects everything in the #filmchain, from correct wages, inclusivity, suppliers, accounting, infrastructure, purchase power, all the way to #scripts & content - if you think about it holistically. So how come a sector that touches so many aspects carries on left unchecked when other countries are regulating it throught #audits, #standards and #financialincentives? The UK #filmindustry is a leading industry in every sense. It just announced a number of tax reliefs and further support, will then the new #BritishCulturalTest make at least ONE reference to sustainability as a requirement or that’s a stretch to aspire towards? By all means, it shouldn’t! It should be a condition! A cornerstone condition. One in all four of the categories of sustainability, should be referenced as a minimum. The Great Debate: Streaming vs. Theater 🎥🎬 While some may argue that streaming is merely a means of passive consumption, a closer examination reveals a more nuanced reality. Streaming platforms have the potential to offer a highly engaging and personalized viewing experience. At home, viewers have the power to control their watching experience, pausing and rewinding at will to fully appreciate the intricacies of the narrative and performances. This level of control creates a sense of intimacy, akin to a private screening tailored to the individual. Theatrical releases must appeal to a broad audience, which can sometimes hinder the formation of a deep, personal connection. While the grandeur of the big screen and the communal experience of the theater hold undeniable allure, the focus on spectacle over substance can occasionally result in a more superficial engagement. The power of streaming lies in its ability to forge a profound connection with the viewer. Through personalized recommendations and a viewing experience that adapts to individual preferences, streaming has the potential to become an integral part of our entertainment lives. Marketers and communicators, take note. Great storytelling that is personalized is the future. #StreamingRevolution #TheFutureOfEntertainment #CinemaEvolution #ViewerEngagement

The indie film streaming landscape is fragmented across platforms like Mubi, Criterion Channel, and Shudder, making it challenging for audiences to find content easily. A unified “super streamer” could be the solution, aggregating independent films in one place. This could boost market reach, simplify discovery, and offer more consistent revenue for indie filmmakers, creating a win-win for both consumers and creators in the independent film industry.
