What’s good, RE:WORK TRAINING Fam? I wanted to drop some gems from my personal notebook that I think could be helpful for the whole squad. Quick backstory: I’m the oldest of three in my family, and being the oldest came with life lessons—like how sharing is caring, passing down knowledge is love, and learning from others’ mistakes can save you from unnecessary “life lessons” (or whoppings, as we called them). So, it’s only right that I keep that same energy here and share something that stood out to me recently. Situation: Glen Kimble hosted a master class leadership check-in to welcome the BIG 40 cohort. He broke down the perks, agenda, and what we should expect during boot camp. Along the way, he shared his own journey into tech—complete with wins, lessons, and even a tough moment where he got passed up for a job because he didn’t know what KPIs were. Hearing that, I gave myself a task: I needed to sharpen my understanding of KPIs. And now that I’ve done some digging, I want to pass this on just in case one of y’all needs a refresher like I did. Here’s the scoop: KPI = Key Performance Indicator It’s a measurable metric used to evaluate the performance or success of a specific goal, project, or business. Why do they matter? KPIs help track progress, spot areas for improvement, and guide data-driven decisions. Examples of KPIs: • Sales KPIs: Revenue growth, Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), or Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR). (Pro tip: If a customer signs a $4,000 contract over 4 years, ARR is $1,000/year.) • Marketing KPIs: Website traffic, conversion rates, and Return on Investment (ROI). Basically, KPIs are SMART—Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. When done right, they give you clear, actionable insights. I hope this helps one of you avoid a similar pitfall and keep climbing. Let’s keep sharing and growing together!
