A few weeks ago LinkedIn’s Talent Blog posted an interesting article titled 5 Recruiting Predictions for 2024. Their first prediction was related to contingent, or freelance, talent. In 2023, there were nearly 64 million freelancers in the U.S., making up 38% of the workforce. Many companies are starting to create a pipeline of contingent talent to reinforce their full-time workforce. The term is called “quiet hiring” and can be a great way to help counter labor shortages, cover short-term needs, and save money. Sound great? It can be, but there are certain things you need to consider. First, finding a way to source reliable contingent workers. Second, you need to be aware of certain laws designed to protect contingent workers’ rights. And third, they advise to develop a strategy and a culture that make these workers feel included and a part of your workforce. They need to be engaged and you need to consider incentives for this labor pool and the incentives that are appealing to them is likely different from your full-time workers.
