Callout to all NDIS Support Coordinators! Evidence templates to assist in reducing chances of support coordination funding being reduced or eliminated. Hello Sunshine Support Coordination are proud to have developed NDIS Support Coordination skill matrix templates for NDIS support coordinators and allied health practitioners. These skill matrix templates assess participant's and carers ability to coordinate their own supports without a support coordinator. These have helped our company maintain or increase our support coordination funding by providing clear break downs of our role, quantified hours for each role and justification. Of course there are no guarantees what the NDIS decide to fund, but these certainly provide added evidence as we are seeing simple recommendation for ongoing support coordination in allied health reports is no longer enough. Template pack - $30 for: 2x templates with ability to input your own company logo, 2x example templates and instructions on how to use. Email [email protected] for any enquiries and to request an invoice for the template pack.

Coming soon... Our April VNJ! 💻📚 Here are some articles that BVNA members can look forward to reading; 🐶 Kai Dillenburger-Keenan evaluates the care given to a dog with tetanus. Tetanus is a rare but life-threatening condition. This case study explores the nursing care of Luther, a 3-year-old German pointer, following his diagnosis and treatment of the condition. Tetanus primarily affects the nervous system, spinal cord and brain function. The interruptions to these systems cause hyperexcitability resulting in muscle spasms. Luther suffered from facial muscle spasm giving him a ‘sinister smile’ and hyperextension and stiffening of the limbs. The nursing care included an intensive nursing care plan to reduce stimuli, ensure appropriate nutrition was given and reduce muscle tremors. These cases can take a long time to reach full ambulatory recovery but are very rewarding to nurse. 💚 The BVNA Advisory Service gives an insightful look in to whistleblowing. It is part of our professional responsibilities to ensure the health and welfare of animals is being met and this may mean raising a concern about a colleague. This can feel very intimidating, but there are clear protocols in place which will help and support you through the process. It is always best to try and solve the concern informally within the practice, but this may not always be possible. The article signposts readers to a charity, Protect, who can give free, confidential advice to anyone who has concerns about wrongdoing in the workplace.

Terribly disappointed with plan reviews getting delayed indefinitely, for several months. Majority of our participants have complex medical conditions and lack strong informal support which necessitates continuity of care. Moreover, many participants need more than one allied health therapist to keep their conditions at check, for instance, a participant with an advanced stage of Rett's Syndrome really used to get benefitted with hydrotherapy and she hasn't been receiving it for 4 months. Planners advising to wait till that last 100 dollars to be spent for commencing the review process. Not sure how long the NDIS bureaucratic hurdle is going to torment them by depriving necessary support. Getting paid for services delivered is important for providers too to sustain the systems and infrastructure we have put in place to ensure safe and competent service delivery. Ever since we started operating, we have never stopped supporting a participant due to funds being insufficient, instead have chosen to take the harrowingly long path to fight and follow up with the NDIS and to get paid via manual payments. However, now, this is becoming really concerning and frustrating than ever before. #righttogetsupported #righttogetpaid

Amid the ongoing conversation attributing the overspending of NDIS funding to support coordinators& plan managers. NDIS are you referring to those inside the agency as well or those just outside the ndis agency ? It’s quite interesting that those who are swift to assign blame to support coordinators often overlook the fact that some NDIS planners and LACs are concurrently operating their own support coordination services. Additionally, these same planners and LACs are referring NDIS participants, for whom they have personally devised plans, to their own services. This scenario inevitably raises questions about the assignment of responsibility and the potential for conflicts of interest. Moreover, it’s crucial to understand that support coordinators do not possess the authority to allocate funding or approve invoices . This is a vital point that needs to be comprehended in this discussion. To the plan managers on LinkedIn Could you assist in enhancing our understanding ? specificaly when invoices are submitted for payment,is it mandatory to receive approval from NDIS before the funds are distributed ? Your insights would be greatly appreciated. This is a conversation we need to have for the sake of transparency and accountability. #NDIS #SupportCoordination #Accountability

TLDR: Feeling very sad and frustrated with the NDIS. See the bottom for my takeaways. Participant had ALL funding for EP, OT and even Dietician cut at a recent review. Shocked, I called the support coordinator (from a large org I will not disclose) to find out what had happened. The SC who was only new to supporting this participant (said participant has been with this company a long time) said “The planner said their was no report to support EP in this participant’s plan. The planner said his SIL staff can take him through an exercise plan” I asked the support coordinator if they had our recent report on file… They couldn’t locate it anywhere 😤 That’s a 2 hour report that did not get sent to the planner. Expressing my concern for the SC’s company’s handling of Participants reports they shrugged it off by saying “Well the NDIS planners are making cuts everywhere, it was bound to happen eventually” My takeaways from this call and the current sentiment towards the NDIS in the industry… 1. Planners are no longer considering the individual’s needs using an appropriate framework 2. Support Coordinators are sounding more and more burnt out. Overworked and underpaid (thanks NDIS price freezes) 3. Many seem to be giving up the fight, advocating for their participants. 4. The cost of our report that the SC missed accounted for ~10% of the Participant’s annual EP budget. Bill Shorten you said you were working on reducing wasted spending? Finally… Support workers do amazing work… BUT they cannot be expected to deliver medically supervised exercise plans 🤯 Someone drop a positive NDIS story in the comments to give me something to smile about 🌈
