Removing personal data when it's no longer required is not only good security practice, it's also a reuirement of many privacy and data protection regulations. That's why we make it easy for a contact to select how long they want their passport, driving license, bank account , home address, health information or other sensitive data sitting on our service. Yes it's always encrypted but why keep it if it's no longer needed? Auto delete puts control back into the hands of the contact or user - where it should be. https://dropvault.app #privacy #infosec

The Hellenic Data Protection Authority (HDPA) has taken a decisive stance on data security with its recent decision, imposing a hefty fine of €2,995,140 on Hellenic Post S.A. (ELTA) for GDPR violations. 💶 ELTA's data breach incident was stemming from a malicious attack on their system resulting in the leakage of personal data onto the dark web. The HDPA’s investigation revealed alarming lapses in ELTA's security measures, including unauthorized remote access and improper handling of network domain management accounts. 🚨 Furthermore, ELTA failed to restrict access to personal data to only authorized personnel, a direct violation of Article 5(1)(f) of the GDPR. The HDPA's findings underscore the critical importance of maintaining robust technical and organisational measures (TOMs), as mandated by Article 32 of the GDPR. ⚖ #DataBreach #Hacked #CyberAttack #Privacy Find the link to the HDPA's press release in the comments ⬇

India has taken a significant step towards protecting the personal data of its citizens with the enactment of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. India found itself in dire need of robust personal data protection legislation. On one front, India has been diligently advancing its digital infrastructure, with systems like Aadhaar (a unique government-issued identification), the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and DigiLocker. These initiatives not only fostered a surge in private third-party service providers utilizing this digital ecosystem but also led to a significant expansion of the internet user base. Additionally, the surge in cyber-attacks and data breaches highlighted the vulnerability of personal data in the digital age. The Act seeks to address these concerns by establishing clear guidelines for data protection, consent management, and data breach reporting. While it provides a framework for safeguarding personal data, many implementation details and clarifications are expected to emerge as the Act is put into practice. #compliance #cybersecurity #whizzc #compliancesoftware #informationsecurity #dpdpa #complianceframework #iso27001 #soc2 #gdpr #personaldata #privacy

Great article highlighting the importance of data retention and secure erasure as one of the key components of data privacy and governance. I agree with the author that data erasure is a technological process and indeed "one of the hardest decisions in data governance." Once we determine what data to retain or erase, where it’s located, and when to erase it, we must also define how to securely erase it to ensure it can't be recovered. The "unreliability of conventional erasure techniques" reminds us that a "DIY approach may not provide the risk mitigation needed". (After all, what's the point of deleting sensitive data if they can still be recovered?)
As we welcome #OAIC ’s updated guidance for not-for-profits about data retention, destruction and de-identification, Australia’s Privacy Commissioner makes a reference to “poor privacy practices” which lead to exacerbated “risk or impact of data breaches”. Explaining that “Indefinite retention of all personal information is unlikely to satisfy an entity’s APP obligations”, even “resource-constrained” organisations are reminded to avoid “poor privacy practices”. However, risk reduction is only one benefit of a good data retention strategy. In his latest article, Alexander Dittel argues that data retention can have a positive effect on an organisation’s balance sheet. Please read our article to find out what are the risks and benefits of good data retention policies and data erasure. 7.5 Million Users Adrift! Boat Hit by Massive Data Breach!! Data privacy is critical for organizations to prevent situations like the Boat data breach for several reasons. Firstly, strong data privacy practices minimize the amount of customer information collected and stored, reducing the potential damage if a breach occurs. Secondly, it fosters a culture of data security within the organization, making employees more vigilant against phishing attempts and unauthorized access. Finally, adhering to data privacy regulations protects companies from hefty fines and legal repercussions. By prioritizing data privacy, organizations can safeguard their customers' information, maintain trust, and avoid the financial and reputational hit of a data breach. #businessgrowth #digitalprivacy #dataprivacy #brandreputation #competitiveadvantage #dataquality #sanguineadvisors #yourprivacymatters ##PrivacyMatters #DataProtection #BusinessSecurity #PrivacyMatters #DigitalProtection #SecureYourBusiness #sanguineadvisors #datacompliancesimplified #sanguinesolution #gdpr #dpdp #dpdpb #dpdpa #dataprotection #legalconsultancy #advisory #data #startupconsultancy #Thedigitalpersonaldataprotectionact2023 #DPDPACT #DigitalIndiaAct #AGEGATING #CONSENTMANAGEMENTFRAMEWORK
