The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) published its New Passenger Car Registrations report for April 2024 yesterday. The first slide compares new Tesla registrations with the total number of new battery electric passenger car registrations. The second slide shows the proportion of total new passenger car registrations that were for battery electric vehicles.

Porsche has introduced the most powerful mass-produced car it has ever made. The electric 1,093-horsepower Taycan Turbo GT, coming to market this summer, has already set two race track speed record for an electric car. It even beat one set by a Tesla Model S by a gigantic 18 seconds. High horsepower numbers and eye-popping acceleration are more common among electric cars than gasoline-powered ones, especially since EVs can have multiple motors. Performance numbers figures like these serve little practical value, of course. It would be impossible to approach this car’s potential other than at a track and few would have the driving skills to do it. This is about giving customers the ability to brag about what their car can, theoretically, do and, for Porsche, putting aside concerns about whether electric cars, with their heavy batteries and near silent operation, can be exciting as regulatory pressure mounts to sell more EVs.

By the end of 2024, car manufacturers have strict deadlines to sell a certain number of electric cars to hit government-set targets. The Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) mandate requires car makers to sell 22% EV's (rising year on year) this year to escape a very punishing fine of £15000.00 per car. There are some big winners so far and BMW once again leads the way - with 26% of all cars sold year to date being Battery powered cars - a stunning achievement for a manufacturer who doesn’t just sell Electric cars. There are also some big shocks too. If you a making plans to change you fleet or add additional cars, there has never been a better time to join the BMW family - our cars are award winning, and they remain the Ultimate Driving Machine. Did you know that BMW had a bigger share of the UK car market in January 2024 than Ford? And Vauxhall? And Peugeot, Citroen, Honda and Renault....combined? What was once a premium brand for the few, is now a volume brand for the many, and the same can be applied to Audi and Mercedes-Benz. And yet despite that popularity, the price remains very much premium. So what do you now do if you want to tread your own path and not follow the crowd, but also want to maximise your money's value? In this week's review on AutoEV I put the new lead-in model in the BMW i4 range, the eDrive 35, against the range-topping BYD EUROPE Seal, the dual motor, 523bhp Excellence, to see if it really can topple the Ultimate Driving Machine for a lot less money. AutoEV - the channel that actual car buyers trust when it comes to choosing their next electric vehicle. #electriccars #companycar #bmw #bydseal #byd #evcharging #ev

The automotive industry witnessed some significant milestones in 2023. Globally, 14 million electric vehicles (EVs) were sold, with China leading the way in BEV adoption. Here’s an interesting look at what we can expect from the automotive industry moving forward. Major fleet companies have accelerated their electrification strategies, with Volvo, Ford, Stellates’ (including Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Opel), and Cupra all targeting 100% EV sales by 2030. What is the fastest car for the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit? Nürburgring Nordschleife is the 12.9-mile-long circuit located in Germany, which is used by various motoring media outlets and vehicle manufacturers for testing. I wondered which vehicle has the fastest lap time, so I did some research. The fastest car was the Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO with 5:19.546, and the fastest production/street legal car was the Mercedes AMG ONE, which is also a PHEV recorded 6:29.090. How was it possible for hybrid vehicles to be the fastest cars on the circuit? The secret is the electric motor. The hybrid cars that can run on electricity alone delivers a lot of torque to the wheels instantly because the electric motor doesn't need to rev up like a gas engine. So it can return to high speed quickly after hard braking at low-speed corners. In addition to that, at high speed, the electric motor adds hp to the ICE engine. 919 Hybrid EVO has 500 hp from the engine and an additional 400 hp from the electric motor, which allowed the vehicle to record 229.29 mph. This was mind-breaking for me because usually hybrid vehicles are considered to be more focused on fuel mileage than performance. But if it is built for performance, it can have better performance than traditional ICE engine vehicles. And while writing this, I recognized that F1 race cars are hybrid vehicles as well. It is amazing to see the evolution of hybrid vehicle technologies related to performance. https://lnkd.in/gH4v82cw https://lnkd.in/gkV8B7wU https://lnkd.in/gvjrfnXf

End of the week EV update.. Despite strong price discounting, demand for electric vehicles has slowed with Tesla sales down 49% in September and 19% year to date. In contrast, sales for hybrid vehicles are booming, up 96% year to date and outselling EVs two to one. Oh what a feeling.. Toyota! Even Ferrari is doing a hybrid...Ferrari F80 hypercar revealed with twin-turbo V6 hybrid power. Its only $5.2m aussie dollars driveaway.. D-Max will be coming with a mild hydrid - the 1.9 litre motor will be interesting - custard skin pulling... MGs Cyberster is around $110k - it looks fantastic...but thats a lot of money for a weighty MX5... Mazda is going to take about 12 months to get Hybrid and PHEV in to their vehicles.
