Time for climate action 🌎 2023 was the hottest year ever recorded according to World Meteorological Organization new report • Records broken for ocean heat, sea level rise, Antarctic sea ice loss and glacier retreat • Extreme weather undermines socio-economic development • Renewable energy transition provides hope • Cost of climate inaction is higher than cost of climate action Now is time to get involved at www.actionspeaks.com Global Climate report https://lnkd.in/d8dtwUDy

Last week, the WMO released its State of Global Climate 2023. The news was not good. Efforts to curb climate change and related environmental risks (like extreme weather, flooding, drought, and wildfire) have not been as successful as they need to be. If we can't stop these changes, we must at least learn to live with them. #climateadaptation #earlywarningsforall #climateresilience

Extreme weather events like heatwaves, floods, droughts, wildfires, and intense tropical cyclones disrupted lives worldwide, causing significant economic losses, as per the WMO's State of the Global Climate 2023 report. 2023 marked the hottest year on record, with global average near-surface temperatures reaching 1.45°C above pre-industrial levels, marking the warmest decade in history. From a humanitarian perspective, with the global population facing acute food insecurity surging from 149 million before COVID-19 to 333 million in 2023, weather and climate extremes have contributed to exacerbate the situation, the report notes. #climate #climatechange #environmentalsecurity #humanitarian https://lnkd.in/d3eN_v6k

Earth will survive, but will you? It was in my law school when I saw this section "what i would love to do the most" in a friend's slam book... now that reminded me of the treks I made and ones I would love to. My treks involved even picking up garbage while in the trail and seeking appropriate disposal. You don't find "use me bins" but the local shepherds welcome the effort and yes organise the same. It has been very interesting to find same people who don't give a thought to litter the streets have been careful in the mountains..perhaps its the interaction with the raw nature that improves their CONSCIOUSNESS or perhaps a fear of getting judged. My point being rise in one's consciousness( or understanding in simpler words) can clarify the distinction between needs and wants of an individual. Since 1970 humanity has wiped out 60 percent of animal species(vertebral). The figure is even more ALARMING affecting biodiversity if we start the count from first industrial revolution. Talking about the climate change... this last decade has significantly affected the water events across globe. Now to be noted, Earth's eco sytems have taken MILLIONS of years to form. Let's talk about the SPACE... an amount of over 8000 metric tons of space debris/junk orbit in earths lower orbit... I am sure it's lesser than Pacific Trash VORTEX. Soil is the soul and countries are facing issues on account of high acidity in rain. Healthcare is hence a booming sector. I have no doubt that interse the globe has always moved towards conquest and peace is just "a preparation for war". But at what cost?
