Not just any training will do. To truly help, trainers must use effective training methods to teach staff effective recovery methods. This is the next major mobilization.

Today I started my journey in the Domestic Abuse Education space with the brilliant Sharon Livermore MBE, below. The training was eye opening, tough to hear at times yet motivating and inspiring. I am determined to be part of the change in support and awareness. Lots more to follow from me but if you have a #wellbeing offering in your business, are responsible for the agenda, this has to be part of it. Work is a safe space for many victims and without education it’s nearly impossible to spot victims of abuse or know how to support. Trust me they are in your business - 1 in 4 women, 1 in 7 men. 49% of gay men have experienced domestic abuse. 2 women will die this week. This is just a (terrifying) snapshot It’s just 2 hours of training for your managers. It literally could (and has) saved lives. Every year our staff receive Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. It is a very important aspect of our Model of Care with the focus being on sharing skills and life experiences to build the capacity of staff, participants, stakeholders and the community. TCI is trauma informed based training effective in de-escalating crisis situations to create a safe environment, but also one that promotes growth and development. This is why I’d love to see a shift with our NDIS funding model for children especially! While the NDIS has made therapies more accessible for some, there is very limited supports for the actual families and providers to understand how to best support the person. Trying to disseminate the information we have available to support them is very difficult when many are already just barely making it through the day. I just wanted to throw the next report out, not read it after countless headaches of dealing with paperwork and red tape to get basic services in place. I just wanted quick solutions and didn’t know I needed more education of how to build his skills! I should have, because I worked in disability! But it’s so different when it’s family. Quick response strategies generally don’t decrease anything but only sustain the stress responses. They are almost always a compliance based action, only escalate the stress response and don’t explore why. Nor do they help the person understand their stress response. I was only talking to a young adult about that today. Even they said ‘How to adults think saying ‘calm down’ to a kid is going to work? I get even angrier! How’s a kid going to know what to do?’ (Very Insightful) A few minutes after a session or a few minutes on the phone to a parent or support doesn’t give them the tools to make long term change and they don’t miraculously get a download overnight after their child receives a diagnosis. #findthewhy #youdontknowwhatyoudontknow #wholepersonapproach #windowoftolerance #skillbuilding

Virtual 3 hr training. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumatic experiences that occur in a person’s life prior to the age of 18, such as abuse or negative environmental conditions. This session assists play therapists in understanding how play therapy can be utilized to treat children who have experienced ACEs.
