Ex CHANEL | Helping female leaders at transition points in their careers achieve success by transforming leadership skills, beating imposter syndrome and boosting visibility at work | 1:1 coaching

Find peace in the chaos, they said. I went to my daughter’s Christmas Carol concert this morning, and this was the message. It could not have been more appropriately pitched to working parents! Much as it’s an exciting joy-filled time of year, it can also be utterly fraught as we try to manically cram our work into shorter working weeks, juggling attending school events, Christmas planning, and social diaries (our own and our children’s…not sure who’s busier?!). Personally, it feels like a festive obstacle course to the finish line! Here’s how I try to coach myself through the madness: - Don’t take on too much. Now is not the time to start that extra project if it can wait until January. Much as I’d love to have that conversation about an amazing collaboration in December, I know I’d be overcommitting. For me, it’s much better to schedule some things for January to give them the time and space it deserves when my mind and calendar are far freer. - Block out non-negotiable family commitments in my and my husband’s work calendars - and make sure we discuss them in advance. - Be proactive with my calendar and try to find solutions to any clashes early. I’ve found there’s nothing worse than checking what’s happening that day and finding a surprise call in the middle of the Reception Nativity. - Accept that it’s ok for standards to slip. Perfection is a myth anyway. The house will be messy and filled with Amazon deliveries. The children might eat more beige food than usual. Who cares as long as everyone is happy and healthy. - Delegate jobs to family members - but make sure tasks are clearly assigned so there’s no miscommunication on who’s buying the secret Santa gifts! - Accept that it’s likely less work will get done than I like and that’s ok, in the main. I’m hoping to emerge on the other side of NYE relatively unscathed! I’d love to hear your tips and advice on running the pre-Christmas gauntlet! Share in the comments below 👇🏼.

Some awesome tips here - definitely focusing on taking the pressure off and making sure you’re not doing a ton of things you think you ‘should’ be doibg - that you actually don’t want to. And taking the time to be present and ENJOY this time of year in amongst the chaos . I flipping love the Christmas magic - I’m here for all it 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

This is such a timely reflection, Kate. I love how you emphasize not overcommitting and focusing on what really matters during the busy season. How do you manage to maintain peace while balancing work and family during such a hectic time of year?
