To all the kids taking exams next week: Never measure your worth by the score of an exam. Exams make a curriculum flat, dull and boring! You end up learning the information you need for the exam, not what you are inspired or interested by. Exams are used as a yard stick for the government to monitor. Exams are used as a yard stick to find the average. Exams do not show your worth. Exams do not identify your strengths or your weaknesses. Exams show some information that you have learnt and been taught, for the exam! Go be brilliant and know you are worth so much more than a score on a piece of paper.

There's a big difference between "I taught it" and "they learned it." Easiest way to bridge the gap? Make sure every lesson has an exit ticket that assesses that day's objective. It's why one of my favorite projects we're working on this year with one of our Simply Great Schools' partners is designing high-quality exit tickets with student-friendly exemplars for every reading lesson taught in grades 3-8 with one of the top reading curricula out there. Now, teachers won't have to guess whether students learned it. They'll actually know. If you want to know before interim assessments or the state exam how well your students are likely to do in reading, making sure every class ends with a high-quality exit ticket should be your highest priority. And reach out if you need help making that a reality so that you can ensure each of your students is poised to have an outstanding year.

Did you know that our 1:1 tuition includes reports after every lesson? If your child is doing their GCSE's, you know how hard it can be to get your child to communicate what they need support in. Our reports are split into 3 sections, including a section for what needs focus. These reports are sent directly to you after each lesson, so that you can discuss them with your child.

Imagine a world where students don't have to remember everything for their tests. What if they could use their textbooks and notes to show how well they understand a subject? Well, that world might soon be real for Central Board of Secondary Education students! The CBSE is considering a significant change in the way it tests students. They might bring in Open Book Examinations (OBE) for classes 9 to 12. It's a test where students can use their textbooks and notes to answer questions. There are 2 types: 1. Restricted OBE: Students can only use materials allowed by the exam board. 2. Free OBE: Students can use any material they think is relevant. The best part about OBEs is that they reduce stress for students. They don't have to worry about memorizing everything. Instead, they can focus on understanding the subject. OBEs also encourage students to learn and apply what they know to real-life situations. This helps them develop critical thinking and practical skills that are super important for their future. But there are some challenges too - ➡ Students might rely too much on their books and notes, which could affect their ability to think on their own ➡ Time management during the exam could also be tricky To make OBEs work well, teachers need proper training on how to design the exams effectively. It might be necessary to alter the entire education system to accommodate this new testing method. In my opinion, open-book exams are important because they test how well students can use the information they have. It's not just about memorizing facts; it's about applying knowledge to solve problems. What do you think about open book exams? #education #openbookexams

When we were school children, and we used to score less or fail in our examinations, what were the top excuses we used? - The teacher was partial towards the students who scored well. - The students who scored well had copied; while I didn't. (Good boy analogy) - The questions which came in the exam paper was never taught and was out of syllabus. - The students who scored well, had private tuitions with the teacher; so the teacher might have given more marks to them OR might have revised these exam questions with these students. - We got less time to answer the exam paper; while others students were given more time. The fact was that we didn't prepare well to perform better.
