#data_science_in_Brazil (hoping you are interested in it!😄). Recently, I had the pleasure of connecting with an awesome team of data scientists and exchanging thoughts and knowledge. These are the challenges we discussed: 1. Ethics in Data Science, especially in the era of Facial Recognition capabilities. 2. How to increase trust in AI for the business side and stakeholders—seems like this is a pain point for tech people worldwide. 😅 3. Career Development in Tech. 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝙸 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝 𝚝𝚘 𝚍𝚛𝚊𝚠 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 𝚝𝚘 is that, even though we come from different continents, industries, etc., the questions, challenges, and pain points are pretty much the same. 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙿𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚛 𝚘𝚏 𝙳𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚢 (which isn’t just about gender or geography) is not just a fancy phrase—it is a very powerful tool. When we stay in our little local bubbles, working with the same kind of people, we tend to get stuck in that mindset and miss out on a lot of opportunities. ✨✨ — Jasmin Weimüller and I will be discussing one of these topics in the next episode of our Diaries of a Data Scientist podcast - don’t miss it out!😉 — If you want to know more about the Power of Diversity → I invite you to book your seat by following this link. Today, I had an insightful conversation about the role of data science in fields often perceived as more subjective. The softer sciences sometimes face criticism for being opinionated and lacking data-driven support. Yet, seeking data can introduce biases, and even successful results are often dismissed as luck. Hard sciences address these challenges with probabilities and logic, but this approach can meet with resistance. To navigate this friction, I use relatable quotes and concepts that foster collaboration and inclusion in finding solutions. One quote I often reference has also been refenced by Apostolos D. Constantinidis, a respected financial professional who recently visited my LinkedIn profile and was excited to give a shout out to: "Success is not just about making the right decisions; it's about managing the outcomes of those decisions with integrity and resilience." Another quote that resonates with me is from Henri Poincaret: "It is by logic that we prove, but by intuition that we discover." I believe these quotes resonate with our shared experiences and aspirations with the shared community. How do you bridge the gap between data science and softer sciences in your work? Feel free to share some of your experiences. #DataScience #MachineLearning #BigData #AI #Analytics #Innovation #FutureOfWork

Let's discuss data science ⚗ On this episode of Technically Speaking, John & Megan is joined by Kevin Croxall, a data scientist whose primary focus is on AI in healthcare. They discuss various topics related to data science, including how working in consulting involves a variety of projects with defined scopes, while working for a product company allows for more focused implementation within the company's goals. They also discuss when presenting data, it is important to strike a balance between providing enough detail and avoiding overwhelming the audience. Presenting data in a format that the audience can comprehend and telling a story with the data can lead to better understanding. They also touch on the importance of curiosity and asking questions in the field of data science. Kevin shares his advice for younger professionals and makes a bold prediction about the future of AI and language models. Question to all the other data professionals in my network: do you remember what kicked off your interest in entering into the "data world"? I was catching up with some old friends in the space recently when the topic came up and while I hadn't thought about it in years, my mind immediately went to when I watched a documentary called "The Joy of Data" during my junior year at Cal. It left a lasting impression on how I think about data and its role in our lives. We hear about data constantly, but the documentary was fundamental in giving me a new perspective on the people and breakthroughs that make what data is today (or at least WAS in 2017) possible. The documentary runs through some pretty interesting stories (i.e. the strange connection between Scrabble scores and online streaming and why cows are wearing pedometers) while also introducing us to people like Claude Shannon, the mind behind the digital age, and Donald Davies, who made fast data networks possible. I’d call it a borderline must-watch introduction for anyone curious or considering a pivot into this world. Into what data really is, how it’s collected, shared, and used, and the unsung heroes who helped create the data-driven world of today. What I loved most was her takeaway message though: while machines can crunch data for us, it’s still up to us to find the meaning. In a world driven by AI and algorithms, that’s a reminder worth hearing. If you’re curious about data and how it shapes our world, check it out. I've posted the link in the comments below. 👇 #Data #TheJoyOfData #AI #Analytics #DataEverywhere #DataConsulting

Let’s define “NICHING DOWN” In my journey into the world of data science, I’ve come to understand that niching down isn’t merely about refining your focus on a specific domain or technology; it’s about becoming an individual who brings unique insights and solutions to the table. Many fear the idea of niching down, not necessarily because they dread the risk of failure, but perhaps because they fear stepping away from a conformist lifestyle. However, in the vast and ever evolving field of data science, I believe that niching down is less about limiting oneself and more about finding a unique voice in a chorus of data-driven narratives. Through my experiences and ongoing learning, I’ve realized that specializing, be it in machine learning, deep learning, or any specific sector like healthcare or finance, does not confine us. Instead, it opens up a world where our specific skills can solve intricate problems, drive innovation, and create impactful insights that might otherwise be overlooked. By delving deep into a niche, we become not only practitioners but also thought leaders within our domains. It’s about mastering the art of bringing abstract data to life, making it tell stories that matter, stories that can influence decisions and shape futures. To my fellow aspiring data scientists and anyone else that this post resonates with, I encourage you not to shy away from finding and owning your niche. Embrace the depth of your interests and let them guide you to becoming indispensable experts in areas you are passionate about. Remember, in the richness of specificity, there lies a universe of opportunities waiting to be explored. #DataScience #CareerGrowth #NichingDown #ProfessionalDevelopment
