What if the solutions to climate change are already here? 🤔 Farmer and climate leader Tony Siantonas and I just co-wrote an article in Business Fights Poverty to spark action ahead of COP30 in Belém, see link to the full article in comments. Here’s a 20 second summary: Farmers are already leading the way with proven solutions to the climate crisis—but to unlock their full potential, global leaders need to step up: 1️⃣ Fund Farms: Smallholder get less than 1% of climate financing. They’re worth every penny. 2️⃣ Break Silos: Align climate, biodiversity, and land restoration efforts to supercharge impact. 3️⃣ Protect Livelihoods: Regenerative practices must boost—not cut—farmers’ incomes. 4️⃣ Let Farmers Lead: Smallholders from emerging markets must have a real voice at the table. 5️⃣ Think Positive: Every fraction of a degree matters. Build on successes and act now. #TechnoServe

At a time when climate doom and fatalism feels rampant, I really appreciate your reminder that "every fraction of a degree matters". Realistic climate optimism is a radical and welcome alternative to those narratives. And from a #climatejustice perspective, could not agree with you more Katarina Kahlmann that centering the present and future needs of those already experiencing climate impacts--like smallholder farmers--is absolutely critical.

Thanks, Katarina! I spoke with a candidate recently who was sharing the approach from his previous organization - he said that they had both a top down and bottom up approach to Regenerative Agriculture practices. There was learning happening from the global sustainability team, but also learning and sharing from the farmers themselves to both the global team, and with their peers. It made so much sense to me!

Katarina Kahlmann Centering farmers is absolutely the best way towards climate resilience. In your experience, what is the most impactful investment the private sector can make for economic and climate resilience? I'm excited to see more private partners joining this transformation!

Thanks for sharing Katarina One of the keys to this strategy is making sure the farmers have agency and aren’t just in the sidelines. They must be partners for this to succeed.

Smallholder farmers are the backbone of sustainable agriculture and critical allies in addressing the climate crisis—it's time to prioritise their voices and invest in their potential.
