1. Is Magicpin trying the Amul route? 2. Does Magicpin have the right to use the image of Zakir Hussain in its advertising (a tribute, like congratulations when a sportsperson does something great, is no excuse)? 3. That looks more like Devi Sri Prasad tbh. 4. Magicpin's 'tribute' adds 6 fingers to Ustad Zakir Hussain's left hand. For context, Amul has been doing it since 1969. Because of the years they have put into it, they have 'acquired' a quasi-editorial appeal for their efforts. If we go by the 'If Amul can, why not X?' route, brands congratulating sportspersons when they do something great wouldn't/shouldn't be sued, right? But they are sued. Related post, where I refer to Amul extensively: The wild world of moment-marketing https://lnkd.in/gkewMDJj #advertising #marketing #brand
Are the tabla's floating? 😅 This is what happens with the AD rushes through the AI images without proof checking it.
Two problems with the tabla as well: 1. The Tabla has 2 drums - the narrow / smaller one is called Tabla and the wider / larger one is called the Dugga / Dagga. Tabla for treble and dagga for bass. In the picture, both look the same. 2. The Tabla sits on the floor in front of the player / tabalji and not in their lap 🤦🏻♂️
I am convinced that magicpin's marketing strategy is making marketing mistakes.
The creative and legal usage issues with the ad aside, I don't think it's a good idea to say that a brand can own Trends. Amul has owned this genre with their creative way to present the trends whether they refer to Queen Elisabeth as Queen Elisabread or be posts like 'Don't be blue, Men in Blue' after the world cup loss. They have managed to capture the positive aspects with their take on the trends. It's not just the trends - it's effective communication. That being said, you can't stop trying. Make hay while the sun shines!
AI generated, I presume?
That headline. All I’d like to say is ‘Nah’.
Magicpin has a bad habit of courting controversies. The sketch doesn’t even look like the younger version of ZH...it's a bad AI generated image (tabla floating in air as pointed by someone in comments).
It's a poorly crafted AI generated image. Is that tabla? The team needs to research how the tabla is placed in front of the player. Looks like the whole research and designing team is on the snooze fest!
I don't think this is a physical billboard. Good photoshop, bad gen AI usage - probably yes.
Brand Strategy & Communications.
5dI think the sixth finger is a way to claim that the image is not of Zakir Husain
