What are the Effie Awards about? Are they about momentary glory? Do they also create some sort of envy? What about learning opportunities? Maybe it is just a competition? But couldn't they be more than that? Of course, the idea of Effie is built upon all of above. But in particular, Effie is an opportunity for the marketing and communications community to get inspired to create more efficient and creative campaigns and a unique opportunity to celebrate these campaigns together. Effie encourages mutual appreciation, fair play, and validates successful campaigns. The marketing and communications community has gone through significant changes over the years, but it has never given up on asserting itself or celebrating its achievements. This year's Effie Gala will be about celebrating a job well done that we can all learn from. There aren’t enough Northern businesses winning awards. 🥇🥈🥉 I’ve been fortunate to attend a number of conferences and award events, which are typically held in London, and every time I come away feeling that there is a real lack of representation from the North. Being a Northern lass I can confidently say there are some incredible brands and individuals doing really great things up here, but more often than not, they’re not winning, they’re not shortlisted, they’re not nominating, but most importantly they’re not even aware of them.. I rarely see any content about awards until they’ve happened and someone I follow on LinkedIn shares their new accolade, or the chance to catch up with friends. I can’t help but wonder if we are losing our invites in the post OR need do we need to shout louder about what we’re doing up ‘ere. What do you think the barrier is? 🤔 Are we celebrating our wins enough? 🤔 Do we know which awards to enter? 🤔 Do we value winning awards? 🤔 Is it purely because they’re mainly held in London?

Last week was #EuroEffie24 Judging Week and it was amazing to read all those entries from all over Europe. The best thing is you are forced to deep-dive again into #MarketingEffectiveness, a field in which we heave learned so much over the past decade, thanks to Les Binet, Peter Field, Mark Ritson, Byron Sharp's Ehrenberg-Bass Institute and System 1 (Please follow all of them and work with them!). Thanks for your everyday brilliant work. 🤓 My #learnings from this year's international glimpse are two-fold: 1. Our markets are different and so are our maturity levels. But all markets grow over time, become more professional and get their hands on good data and know-how (Thanks to the above.) as a basis. 🪴 2. We all can bring more of the research into our everyday work and apply it more consequently as well as argument with it, internally and externally. It will help us to apply one message as marketing community and to push effectiveness of marketing, which in turn will help marketing to rise in business. Let's get even better at that! 💪 So, what are the basics we know? ⚖️ #Brandbuilding and #SalesActivation must be balanced for maximum effectiveness and financial performance. It's on average a 60:40, depending on your category and where you stand with your brand. 💗 Emotionally driven ads outperform rational messaging for long-term #growth. 💰Brands that maintain #ExcessShareofVoice grow faster than competitors. 🤩 Maximizing reach and enhancing #MentalAvailability is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. 🎨 #Distinctiveness is nowadays more important than differentiation in itself: Aim for #fame! 💓 #Fluency in terms of familiar settings, characters and other fluent devices resp. branding elements to drive accuracy and speed of brand recognition are crucial over the long-term. #Marketeers, if you want to add to this list, please do so! The last few weeks have been crazy with back-to-back events across the US and the APAC region. The team has been working across the timezone to create the events cheatsheet, schedule meetings for the leadership team, get the booth ready, manage the logistics and collaterals, coordinate with vendors to avoid delays and get the caricature artist at the booth, which has worked wonders for us till date. I could easily relate to the song from Munnabhai MBBS - Ek kahani khatam to dooji shuru ho gayi mamu. But for us, the kahani doesn’t end. It’s the start of 2nd innings with follow-ups to convert the conversations at the events into meetings and opportunities. Typically, we have seen 1-2 large publishers' wins per event from regions with a presence and our customers supporting us by influencing prospects. Today, I had a remarkable experience participating in the In The Boardroom Event organized by EO Belgium where I had the opportunity to discuss 1 on 1 with Ageas Group CEO Hans De Cuyper. This was my first experience interacting with one of Belgium's finest CEOs, and I drove home with some valuable insights. Here are my key takeaways: 1) I will focus more on work that brings me energy. I will delegate tasks that don't elevate my energy level to staff members who are energized by them. 2) I will summarize my strategic plan in one slide and install it as a screensaver on all company PCs. 3) I will take action to ensure we stay true to your long-term vision and ambitions, and map them out again to refresh everyone in your organization about why we do what we do. 4) I will push our current strategy of diversifying into other markets even more to make our great organization even more stress-resistant.
