Hong Fu Industrial Group, a Taiwanese footwear manufacturer that supplies major brands like Nike, Converse, Vans, and adidas, has launched its operations in India. The company held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Rs 1,500-crore footwear plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Panapakkam, about 85 km from Chennai. The company, which produces 200 million pairs of shoes annually and generates $3 billion in revenue, plans to hire 25,000 workers at the new facility, with 85% of them being women.
