New Post: 3D printing of “wood-like” objects possible - https://lnkd.in/g9J9_rUj - During the process of building with wood, many leftover bits are produced, which often end up going to waste. The construction of one single-family home produces over 5,000 pounds of wood waste. Materials scientists are working on a way to take wood that would normally end up in a landfill and turn it into 3D printer ink. — Read the rest The post 3D printing of "wood-like" objects possible appeared first on Boing Boing. - #news #business #world -------------------------------------------------- Download: Stupid Simple CMS - https://lnkd.in/g4y9XFgR -------------------------------------------------- or download at SourceForge - https://lnkd.in/gNqB7dnp

Super excited with some of the prototypes i've been working on with some product designers in the workshop - here was a bit of a complex orchid planter we came up with a while back just to play around with. In addition to the #bioadhesive formulations I've been working on, we have been prototyping with some #compostable #prototyping materials for various consumer product applications. I'm calling the prototyping adheisve ProtoCell and the overall composite, when mixed with any circular biomass source, ProtoWood. So far we've played around with wood wastes, #jute fiber, and #hemp. The adhesive is water soluble (unless thermally crosslinked at 50-60C for roughly 5m/mm of depth penetration), and dissolves into a slurry that is #biostimulating, triggering positive immune reactions in plants and promoting pioneer growth. The banner on my profile is a combination of a midjourney image I generated to show my vision of regenerated landscapes based off of short term use consumer goods. Basically asking the question: what if all of our #ikea and other composite furniture could dissolve into fertilizer, rather than contributing to landfill issues due to VOC, formaldehyde, and other issues of processed lumber and wood-like products? The following 2 pictures are of my prototyping waste dump site at 6 and 9 months after I started depositing last year in November. From barren gravel ridden soils, to harboring pioneer plants in 9 months. If you'd like to explore using these composites, please send an email through the link on our website. https://lnkd.in/gpqcBfHv #bioeconomy #circulareconomy #renewablematerials #regenerativematerials #greenchemistry
We're increadibly excited to share our #Regenerative #Prototyping #Bioadhesive in action! Here we choose a relatively complex geometry for prototyping and showing detail capture using our proprietary #ProtoCell Bioadhesive, which is comprised of chitosan and various cellulose fillers. In combination with a #circular wood flour #biomass that would otherwise be burned for energy purposes and emit more CO2 into the atmosphere, we call this #innovative wood-like composite ProtoWood, designing it for short term use cases (1-3 years), and #product end-of-life. After 2 weeks of complete submersion in water, the bonds in the adhesive will start to break down and dissolve into a biostimulating pulp that can be composted or deposited into green areas. This object was produced by #3Dprinting #bioplastic molds (PLA/PHA hybrid), and was pressed with <50kg of force on a hydralic press in our workshop (though we have produced many planters of this design for our studio by hand). ProtoWood can be post processed like a traditional prototyping foam or soft wood, using a combination of cutting, milling, and sanding tools where necessary to remove sections, carve details, or otherwise remove artifacts of the production process (in this instance layerlines). As it is 100% bio based, it is #VOC, #carcinogen, and #formaldehyde free, providing a #workersafe material for prototyping and form finding. We would love to work with you to shape a healthier, more sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/ggEaTGPu #bioplastics #biomaterial #bioeconomy #circulareconomy #renewablematerials #energy #greenchemistry

📢 For rubber tracks, the advantages over traditional tracks are already obvious, providing higher efficiency for agricultural machinery with excellent adaptability and support. In my personal opinion, rubber tracks have several trends in the continuous development of the industry in the future: ✅ Material innovation: The material science and technology of rubber tracks will continue to progress. Manufacturers may seek to develop more wear-resistant and durable rubber materials to improve track life and performance. In addition, they may explore new materials, such as high-performance synthetic or composite materials, to further enhance the performance of the track. ✅ Lightweight design: With an increased focus on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, rubber track manufacturers are likely to move in the direction of lightweight design. By reducing the weight of the track, energy consumption can be reduced and the efficiency of the mechanical equipment can be improved. ✅ Sustainable development: In the context of sustainable development, the rubber track industry may pay more attention to the research and development and application of environmentally friendly products. For example: do not use some chemical raw materials that are more harmful to the environment, but also improve the performance of the material. #rubber #drama #home #rubberproducts #rubbertrack #tracks #transport #environment #skidsteer #skidsteerloader #excavator #dumper #rubberproducts #agriculturetechnology #quality #productivity #construction #accelerate #sprockets #steel

I am excited to announce the publication of our latest work titled "Effect of Material Extrusion Process Parameters to Enhance Water Vapour Adsorption Capacity of PLA/Wood Composite Printed Parts" in the journal Polymers. This article investigates the influence of material extrusion process parameters on the performance of composite materials for desiccant-based #dehumidification systems, applicable to both building and industrial environments. Our research focuses on how #3Dprinting settings can optimize the water vapour adsorption capacity of PLA/wood composites. Special thanks to Francisco Comino Montilla, Pablo E. Romero, Esther Molero Romero, and Manuel Ruiz de Adana Santiago, whose collaboration and support made this research possible. The authors acknowledge the financial support received by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), by the Junta de Andalucía through the Consejería de Agricultura, Ganadería, Pesca y Desarrollo Sostenible (Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development) through the research project #AGROSEC, reference GOPO-574 JA-23-0003.
