Happy April! Are you prepared for the employment law changes coming into effect this month? ⛱️ HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT If your holiday year starts from 1 April 2024 or after, there are changes to how holiday for part-year and irregular-hours workers is calculated. 👶 PATERNITY LEAVE Effective from 6 April 2024, there are adjustments to paternity leave regulations. Employees now have the option to take a single one-week or two-week period of leave, or two non-consecutive periods within 52 weeks of birth or adoption placement. 🤱 CARER'S LEAVE Employees have a new right to take up to one week of unpaid carer's leave to provide or arrange care for a dependent with a long-term care need. As of 6 April 2024, they have this right from day one of employment. 👨👩👧👦 FAMILY LEAVE REDUNDANCY PROTECTION Employees on family leave will have protection during redundancy extended as of 6 April 2024. 💼 FLEXIBLE WORKING Flexible working is becoming a right from day one of employment from 6 April 2024. Employees can also make two requests in 12 months. As of the 6th April, the Carer’s Leave Regulations 2024 allows employees to take up to one week of unpaid leave to care for dependants with long-term care needs. This policy is a 'Day 1' employment right and includes flexibility for half-days or full days off. Key Reforms at a Glance: -Statutory Sick Pay (SSP): Workers will receive SSP from the first day of illness, rather than the fourth. -Paternity Leave: Fathers will be eligible for paternity leave from the first day of employment, rather than after 26 weeks. -Unpaid Parental Leave: This will become available from day one, rather than after a year of employment. -Unpaid Bereavement Leave: To be extended to all workers as a "day one" right. -Flexible Working: Employers will be required to consider flexible working requests from the start of employment, and accept unless they can justify otherwise. #FlexibleWorking #WorkersRights #EmploymentLaw
