Via Tania Duarte, this is the first **funded** call for art that I’ve seen pertaining to AI, with the end goal being “an opportunity for submitted images to be published under Creative Commons 4.0 licence in the Better Images of AI library.” The call for artwork is from ADAPT Centre, appears to be open to international creators, and closes October 20, 2024. The full application is here: https://lnkd.in/eWe9RVwW From the call for applications: “In order to encourage artists from all career stages, we have devised a two-strand application which will see interested parties applying either as Professional Artists or students. The judging process will take into account the difference in experience of both strands, and both will be compensated accordingly for their contribution. Our aim is to support five artists from each strand. Each successful Professional artist will be awarded €360 for their contribution. Students will be compensated €120.” Interested in thoughts on this approach for artwork that will potentially be used in machine learning models— share in the comments! #machinelearning #ai #artificialintelligence #artist #equitablepay #creativeeconomy #artsprofessionals #creativeprofessional #artist

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is constantly evolving, and one of the most fascinating recent trends is the rise of AI-powered art creation. This isn't just about robots mimicking famous paintings; it's about using code to unlock new avenues for artistic expression. How does AI Art work? Coders are developing sophisticated algorithms trained on massive datasets of existing artwork. These algorithms can generate entirely new pieces, inspired by specific styles, emotions, or themes you provide. Here's what makes AI Art so exciting: Democratizing Creativity: AI tools make art creation more accessible, even for those without traditional artistic training. Pushing Creative Boundaries: The ability to experiment with different styles and techniques through code opens doors to entirely new artistic possibilities. Collaboration Between Human and Machine: The ideal scenario isn't AI replacing artists but humans and AI working together to create unique and innovative art forms. Of course, AI Art is still in its early stages, and there are challenges to consider: Copyright and Ownership: Questions arise about who owns the rights to AI-generated art - the coder, the algorithm, or someone else. Maintaining Artistic Integrity: How can we ensure that AI art retains a human element and doesn't become purely formulaic? Bias in the Data: AI algorithms are trained on existing data, which can perpetuate biases. Ensuring diverse datasets is crucial for creating inclusive AI art. Saturday Challenge: Let's explore AI Art together! Search online for some AI art generation platforms (there are free and paid options available). Experiment with different prompts and styles, and share your creations (or interesting discoveries) in the comments below! . . . #aiart #artificialintelligence #coding #creativity #art #technology #innovation #collaboration #ownership #bias #geetauniversity #saturdaychallenge

I know a lot of designers are hugely worried about AI but it has its flaws. Seeing these latest developments in the field of #ai #aitechnology sort of proves my theory that there is truly no way to recreate true human inspiration. There are two groups of people when it comes to AI: those that love it and those that hate it. I tend to be in the first group because AI is good for assistance with certain workflow tasks- assistance. Personally I wouldn’t rely on AI for full content creation, and this is now one of the reasons why #technology #design #graphicarts #graphicdesign #graphicdesigner #graphicartist #designer #tech #technews #designnews

Has Art been killed by AI? What value do creatives have? What does it mean for Amazon creatives even? These are all thoughts in my head..... and AI art has upset me, to be frank. For those who don't know. I am a street art junky, an avid follower of the art scene and visit the Tate and worldwide galleries regularly, from the MoMa in New York to Guggenheim in Bilbao in Spain. My art teacher once cycled 30 miles to my house to try and persuade my father to let me study art at A-Level. But sadly it was a no. For me, art died a little in my life that day and it saddens me that this could happen again with the world of AI. While I do enjoy tinkering with Dalie or Open Art for ideas, the art it creates makes me feel cold inside. Perhaps in some way due to the lack of human connection. Don't get me wrong I am not an AI hater, far from it! I think the potential for AI is massively important in the world of analysis and reducing the time for the mundane. Perhaps it's greatest asset is as an ideas sounding board, but the creativity is driven by human genius in my book. Ironically as AI progresses and algorithms are developed to spot a deepfake "TRUE ART" will go up in value. So I think the real potential for AI is to free up time for the thinkers and artists who have the time to daydream and come up with that next masterpiece. PS: In case you were wondering Art lives on strong in my daughter who is an art scholar now at college! #Art #AI #creative #amazon

🤖 In recent months, I have been delving into AI tools and their intersection with art, a topic that sparks fascinating conversations. One of the most intriguing debates surrounds the criticism of AI-generated creative work. Critics often begin by pointing out the prevalence of "bad AI art" and the perceived "sameness" in AI-created artwork. Artists have described imagery generated by Midjourney or ChatGPT as "plastic" and "flashy," attributing this to the models being heavily trained on video game data. Additionally, some people argue that AI-made creative work is essentially theft since it is trained on existing works by other artists. Interestingly, these criticisms usually come from individuals who would never walk into an art gallery and say, “This is bad art,” or “All this looks the same,” because they understand that such statements are overly simplistic. What constitutes "bad art"? Who is qualified to make that determination? Since when have we reverted to using such reductive terminology for complex creative expressions? If an artist credits another as a significant source of inspiration, do we accuse them of theft? If learning from and drawing inspiration from previous works is theft, then what are art schools for? AI in art is not a new phenomenon. For example, in 2022, right before the current AI boom, MoMA exhibited "Unsupervised" by artist Refik Anadol. He used artificial intelligence to interpret and transform over 200 years of art at MoMA, posing the question, “What would a machine dream about after seeing the collection of The Museum of Modern Art?” The exhibition was a huge success, and the museum acquired the artwork. Would it have the same success now? I have thought about why people feel so comfortable making these statements about AI-assisted creative work. Conversations about AI art tend to be more aggressive and use a vocabulary that, in my opinion, has been phased out in educated discussions about art. Part of the problem may lie in the term “AI-generated.” It makes us forget that there is still a person behind the tool. Art has no set definition, but for me, a major allure of art is the glimpse it provides into the unique experience of its creator, offering a view of the world through their eyes. This can range from uncomfortable chaos to unimaginable tranquility and everything in between. Many feel discomfort with AI-created art because it seems to offer not a glimpse into a human mind but into a machine. But the result can be quite similar. There is a certain magical and mystical quality to human creativity that now feels challenged by AI. I recently attended a discussion at the World Science Forum titled “The Arts in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” One quote that resonated with me was, “If AI can give us answers to the big questions, will we even understand them?” To that, I would add: if AI demystifies the human mind and creativity, will we even accept it?
