In my first year at university I volunteered at a non-league club for a few months. During this time I learned an incredible amount about the role I was doing, I learned how to behave in an footballing environment and became a lot more confident. If you are at university & want to work in football then I would strongly suggest gaining experience at a non league club. You can create your own opportunities and almost create a role for yourself. How would I go about creating ''my own opportunities?'' Firstly, what I would not do is approach a club and say '' Is there any work experience opportunities?'' I would approach the club & say I can do 'XYZ' for you and I have X experience & Y qualifications. You could even create a job description and send it over, by doing this you are offering value and making it easier for the club. The key is to do this in volume too, do not just send two emails/DM's and expect success. Do not wait for opportunities to come to you, they hardly ever do. Morning Everyone,   It's supposed to be good to keep your profile views and engagement up during job hunting so I'm going to have a go at regular LinkedIn posts with fresh, original and highly engaging content! Wish me luck!   I'm going to make a start with a progress update on my life in the job hunt. A former manager of mine used to get us to write a GBU (Good, Bad, Ugly) each week to get a steer on where we were at both in terms of work and emotionally. So here is my weekly GBU!   Good -I got to spend Easter holiday with the kids without using up any holiday! Always a slightly random experience where things happen like getting shown pictures of the pet Guinea Pigs wearing hats, but lots of fun and lovely times. -It’s been really nice to get back in touch with lots of people and the recommendations people have sent through have been amazing please keep them coming. -https://lnkd.in/eREVVbfc - I wanted to mention Historic England. Their recruitment process which was a really breath of fresh air. No CV to upload or requests for very specific previous experience just 5 questions to answer which were assessed and then feedback given in a kind of radar chart like in the football games. I now know where I did better and worse also how I compared to everyone else (above average but not as high as the best candidates) and this was a rejection before interview! -A bit of potential work a few months down the line. -My gym and fitness routine is coming along great guns. I remember Ryan Knox , LSSMBB , CCMC , TQMP telling me that grinding weights at the gym was his way of destressing work stuff. I didn’t understand at the time but I do now! I exercise 6 days a week and it keeps me sane and happy in what could potentially be trying times. -I play a sport called Korfball in a team called Abingdon Atoms 2. Yesterday we completed an undefeated season and got promoted. Watch out Oxfordshire Korfball League division one! 😎 https://lnkd.in/eZPZu6rJ   Bad -No job interviews yet. -Easter holidays with the kids are the best for getting on and applying for jobs!   Ugly -I’m losing count of job rejections now, 6 maybe. There’s 30+ applications that I’ve sent so hopefully some more positive news in the pipeline. -Transitions between holidays and term times are tricky with two SEN kids. It’s been a tough few days and something that’s hard to for people not in a similar situation to understand. ⛳ Excitement is in the air as The Masters tees off!🏌️ One of the most prestigious tournaments in sport gets underway later this week and as always I can't wait! With The Masters taking place at Augusta each year the course itself is well known to most of the field playing but what can't be controlled over the span of 72 holes is the external factors. That could be the weather itself (wind, rain, sunshine), the crowd and other players themselves. It reminded me of recruitment and a candidates journey through interview. Whilst the process might be known and repeatable there are so many external factors that can affect how you perform on any given day or week. It's a stressful thing getting a new job so it's important to celebrate the successes and "making the cut"! Swinging Into the Weekend! ⛳️ Over the weekend, I swapped my recruitment hat for a golf club and hit the course with my partner. (Yes, that green t-shirt is intentional - if you know me, you know it’s my favourite colour! Golf is a game I’ve always admired but never quite mastered. It’s one of those sports that’s both fun and frustrating in equal measure. It's kind of like trying to find the perfect candidate for a tricky role. But I love golf because it teaches patience, persistence, and the value of progress over perfection. These are all things I want to embrace more in 2025, on and off the course. Don't make hard things look easy. Make hard things look hard, then succeed at them anyway. Self-promotion is a critical skill for advancement. Promotions and opportunities don't always come to the most capable person, but to the one who is *seen* as capable. When you make hard look easy, spectators will question whether your skills are differentiating, much like you do when watching Olympic curling. When you accomplish something hard, you want people around you to be able to recognize that it was hard. Learn how to summarize the hardest parts of what you do so they can be understood and respected by observers without all your expertise. (P.S. If you're tempted to sandbag and make easy things look hard, keep in mind how badly that backfires when a knowledgeable observer is present.)

🙌 3 things I have learnt about “stress of applying to jobs”: 1. No matter the kind of mental gymnastics you do, things take its own sweet time to unravel. 2. My worth is not defined by whether I make it through or not. It’s not personal, but it feels that way. 3. The best way to combat it is to not have eggs in one basket and do multiple GOOD applications. ________ 💭 All the employed people, share one piece of advice in the comments that you believe would benefit those searching for a job. Hello Everyone. I am a Firm believer in this famous saying - "Luck is where Opportunity meets Preparation". Whether it is winning The Gold at The Olympics, leading the team successfully, gearing up for a big presentation, a crucial job interview, or even just tackling your daily tasks, being PREPARED to use every OPPORTUNITY is very important. I believe, Preparation is the unsung hero of every Success and the bridge between Desired Goals and the Final Destination. Now how to "Be Ready" and "Prepare Better"? 1). Cultivate Good Habits - Habits help us to stay focused to progress towards our desired goals. So, cultivate good habits first. 2). Maintain Discipline – Create a Routine, Stay Organized, Eliminate Distractions and Stay Motivated. Discipline keeps you in check and pushes you towards your Desired Goals. 3). Have Patience – During the Preparation time, Patience is important, as this is a kind of Waiting period. The Olympics come once in 4 years, and every athlete in the world, prepares themselves well, for these games, thoroughly and waits for the Opportunity to Shine on the Big Stage. It is a Continuous effort - day in and day out. Remember, many Opportunities will come your way in life, what makes the difference, is how you prepare yourself to handle them and to make use of them. Be Well Prepared and Just Wait for Your Turn.
