As we close out another year dubbed the hottest year on record by scientists in the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), I’m thinking a lot about how investors can help make communities more resilient in the face of the climate crisis. And I’m thinking a lot about how to support investors in making sure they’re able to measure, manage and optimize the positive impact of these investments with rigor and integrity. This is where IRIS+ comes in, and yesterday the GIIN team launched new resources on the platform that focus on climate adaptation and resilience. By supporting investors with frameworks and standards that explain how to get the most impact out of every investment dollar, we’re able to pave the way for more investments that help communities adapt to climate risk, increase agricultural resilience through technology, improve the resilience of our electrical grids and improve households' resilience to flooding. I encourage all investors focused on climate solutions to dive into IRIS+ today: https://lnkd.in/gJPSEqiZ. #climatecrisis #imm #impactinvesting #greenjobs #climatesolutions

Making Europe’s carbon prices more uniform within countries and, better yet, across countries, would help equalizing the burden of cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The new Chart highlights research showing that equalizing carbon prices across countries would spread the economic burden of emission reductions more evenly across households and alleviate the weight on poorer Europeans. https://lnkd.in/enGsvH4n

Technology Thursday - Green Technology Companies This week for Technology Thursday, check out TIME and Statista's list of America's Top GreenTech Companies of 2024: https://lnkd.in/gfp3a6G2 I agree with Marcelo De Oliveira's statement to TIME that people, inspiration, and innovation are the keys to solving the climate change problem. From the article: "Marcelo De Oliveira, vice president of materials science and geology at Brimstone, tells TIME that the green-tech boom is as much about inspiration as it is about innovation—inspiring a new generation of scientists and eco-preneurs to deploy their talent to addressing climate change. “Our most valuable resource in solving this problem is people,” says De Oliveira. “We urgently need more individuals dedicated to addressing it.”" #greentech #sustainability #climateaction

𝐂𝐎𝐏29 𝐃𝐚𝐲 9 Day 9 sees continued negotiation efforts between global leaders, with progress made in the agricultural sector regarding methane reduction. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐚𝐲 9: 𝐃𝐚𝐲 9 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 🔹The coalition against fossil fuel subsidies (COFFIS) now includes 16 nations aiming to eliminate dependency on fossil fuels in the public sector. The latest members of the coalition include Colombia, the UK and New Zealand. 🔹Germany has announced its pledge of $63 million to the Adaptation Fund, bringing this year’s amount from $61 million to $124 million. Although this is a significant increase, the fund is still short of its $300 million annual target. 🔹Over 30 countries representing 47% of global methane production from organic waste (including Russia, U.A.E and the US), have endorsed the Reducing Methane from Organic Waste Declaration. 🔹Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with UNEP’s Climate and Clean Air Coalition has announced its intention to develop a roadmap for methane reduction for the agricultural sector, supporting the Global Methane Pledge’s 2030 targets. 🔹The Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers was launched by the COP29 Presidency in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). The program focuses on fostering collaboration across food and agricultural initiatives. 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 Despite controversy in relation to COP29’s host nation being a petrostate, Azerbaijan has made history in becoming the first country to receive the IS020121 Certification for Sustainable Management and Delivery. ISO 20121 is an international standard for sustainable event management. The framework provides a set of guidelines for planning, organizing and executing sustainability events in a socially inclusive manner. Although the award is one of firsts, it still does not address key negotiations that are waiting to be concluded here at COP29. With the conclusion of the G20 summit there is hope that its leadership declaration will put pressure for the development of a new climate finance goal by the end of COP29 (Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gsC5vkcq ). Companies are not able to fully understand their climate risk without looking at their entire value chain (scope 3). What are the main risks to decarbonising your supply chain emissions? 1️⃣ Supply chains generate the majority of emissions. For you to create a net zero supply chain, you need accurate data to begin to lower your carbon footprint, at every stage along your supply chain. 2️⃣ Requests for carbon data are increasing. As reporting requests increase for environmental product declarations (EPDs) or product life cycle assessments, companies are struggling as it is difficult to access accurate supply chain data to complete these assessments. 3️⃣ Requires major investment. This could be financial investment, time investment and / or investment in resources. 4️⃣ Lack of awareness and expertise along the supply chain. To decarbonise your companies supply chain, cannot be a single person effort. It will require knowledge and support from a variety of different disciplines and individuals to make it work. Alongside this, think about what your supply chain looks like - map it out. How many smaller organisations or SME’s do you have along your supply chain who do not have the time, resource or in-house expertise to be able to provide you with the data and information you require. This is why it is so important to bring your supply chain along on your journey with you - and up skill where you can. 5️⃣ Resistant mindsets. The best way to overcome resistant mindsets is through education, learning and listening. Decarbonising your organisation, means there will be a lot of change happening in how you operate. Studies suggest that 70% of change plans fail because of employee resistance. This can come from fear, misunderstanding and expectations. This is why it is vital to be open and transparent with any changes happening in your company - and most importantly why. If your employees are clear and involved in what is happening, they are more likely to want to play their part and be involved. This is the same for your supply chain, educate, listen and learn where you can!
