Yhdysvallat valmistelee pikavauhdilla lisäpakotteita kiinalaiselle teknologialle - tällä kertaa vuorossa autonomisten ajoneuvojen ohjelmistot, kertoo Bloomberg (tilaajille): "The US is preparing to widen its confrontation with China over technology by challenging the world’s second-largest economy in the rapidly emerging field of autonomous and internet-connected vehicles. Biden administration officials plan to propose limits on US sales of Chinese vehicle software as soon as this month, according to people familiar with the matter, a step aimed at addressing security concerns raised by a new generation of so-called smart cars. The move would include curbs on use and testing of Chinese technology for autonomous vehicles, the people said. Many of today’s cars — both gas and electric — are equipped with devices connecting them to the internet, making them potential targets for hacking." #autoteollisuus #sähköautot #autonomousvehicles #interconnectedvehicles #kyberturvallisuus #yhdysvallat #kiina #kauppapolitiikka #geopolitiikka https://lnkd.in/d8aRiV4k

#China's strong push for automated driving, bolstered by significant government support and regulatory frameworks, positions it as a potential leader in the development of #autonomous vehicle (AV) technology and relative to commercialization of the AV industry. In mainland China, an improved investment climate and consumer demand for advanced #technology has prompted many manufacturers to incorporate high-level advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and Automated Driving Systems, especially in Level 2+ use cases. Direction from policymakers on the importance of #AI and its applications in autonomous vehicles also provides a long-term orientation to technology development in China and some reassurance to OEMs. https://okt.to/SEnDxt

#DisruptiveTech 🔵 The U.S. Department of Commerce is expected to propose barring Chinese software in autonomous and connected vehicles in the coming weeks, according to sources briefed on the matter. The Biden administration plans to issue a proposed rule that would bar Chinese software in vehicles in the United States with Level 3 automation and above, which would have the effect of also banning testing on U.S. roads of autonomous vehicles produced by Chinese companies. The administration, in plans first reported by Reuters, will also propose barring vehicles with Chinese-developed advanced wireless communications abilities modules from U.S. roads, the sources added. Under the proposal, automakers and suppliers would need to verify that none of their connected vehicle or advanced autonomous vehicle software was developed in a "foreign entity of concern" like China, the sources said. #cav #autonomous #autonomousvehicles #China #US Campaign Catapult, Pravo Consulting

I worked on connected vehicle rollouts from Western OEMs across the world. There are people everywhere who don't want Western OEMs tracking them and sharing details with their domestic governments. We trained the market to support turning the systems off as modems now become standard equipment. There are levels of control here. The proposed controls from the U.S. on China's "Smart" vehicles are on those with Level 3 (L3) tech and above - I think its to support a political win more than have real impact. When it comes to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) our friends at Bosch have an L2/L2+/L2++ market view (thanks Mathias Reimann for teaching us that last Spring.) The market will find a way to stay close to the line. L3 hardware is not cheap, we may not see L3 and above on "cheap Chinese imports" anytime soon especially with a 100% tariff. This law certainly makes it harder for Western companies to choose to partner with CN companies in the Smart Tier to improve their Global products. VW deserves to partner with Xpeng and leverage the G9 platform to improve their Global products. Bill Russo what do you think, were the benefits of working with Xpeng ever going to make their way into VWs global products? I thought they would.
It appears the U.S. is preparing to widen its tech war with China to include the emerging field of autonomous and internet-connected vehicles. Curbs on Chinese vehicle software are expected as soon as this month, following a probe the White House launched in March.

The US Department of Commerce plans to propose a ban on Chinese software in autonomous and connected vehicles, impacting those with Level 3 automation and above. This includes a prohibition on testing Chinese-produced autonomous vehicles on US roads and barring vehicles with Chinese-developed advanced wireless communications modules. Automakers and suppliers will need to verify that their connected and advanced autonomous vehicle software is not developed by foreign entities of concern, such as China. The proposal is motivated by national security concerns regarding connected technologies in vehicles. A Chinese embassy representative emphasized the importance of fair competition in the global electric vehicle market. The White House and the US Department of State recently held a meeting with international allies to address data and cybersecurity risks tied to connected vehicles. US lawmakers raised concerns about Chinese companies’ operations in the US, where they have significantly tested autonomous vehicles. The US administration is particularly worried about potential misuse of connected vehicle technologies to monitor or control occupants. #MotiveAsia #Taiwan https://lnkd.in/gnNMpWMP

Tesla Unveils the Cybercab: A Fully Autonomous Robotaxi with No Steering Wheel or Pedals – Are We Ready? Tesla’s new Cybercab is an exciting leap into the future, but it raises some serious questions: are we really prepared for fully autonomous vehicles to become the norm? While the technology behind autonomous driving has made significant strides, there are still real-world issues we need to address before we can confidently embrace a world of robotaxis: 👁️Safety and Reliability: Are current AI systems advanced enough to handle unpredictable situations like road construction, extreme weather, or sudden obstacles? What happens if the system fails with no manual controls available? 👁️Cybersecurity Risks: Autonomous vehicles are highly connected. How do we protect them from hacking or data breaches that could compromise passengers' safety? 👁️Ethical Dilemmas: Who is responsible in case of an accident? The manufacturer, the AI, or the owner? We’re entering uncharted legal territory, and regulations need to catch up. 👁️Job Impact: With robotaxis on the rise, what does this mean for the millions of people employed in the transportation industry? Are we ready for this kind of economic shift? 👁️Trust and Public Acceptance: Fully autonomous vehicles still face public skepticism. Will people feel safe and comfortable being passengers in cars with no human control? 👁️👁️The vision is impressive, but the road ahead has more than a few bumps that we need to navigate carefully. #AutonomousVehicles #Robotaxi #Tesla #AI #FutureOfMobility #SafetyConcerns #TechEthics
