We're celebrating that Socratic Mind, a collaborative effort between the C21U research team, Jeonghyun (Jonna) Lee and Meryem Yılmaz Soylu, graduate students Ray (Jui-Tse) Hung (Georgia Tech) and Christopher Cui (UC of San Diego), and Eunhee Sohn, assistant professor of Scheller College of Business, won the Catalyst Award in the Accelerating & Assessing Learning Track 2023-24 Tools Competition. Socratic Mind is a scalable, AI-powered oral assessment platform that encourages deep, thought-provoking dialogues through Socratic questioning. This innovation encourages individuals to explain, justify, and even defend their answers to showcase their understanding. The platform was also a finalist in MIT SOLVE, an initiative funded by the Gates Foundation, in the Learner Meets Future: AI-Enabled Assessments Challenge. 🌟 I’m excited to share that I’ve successfully completed the SAWIT.AI Learnathon Program on the Fundamentals of Generative AI, hosted by GUVI Geek Networks, IITM Research Park and supported by HCLTech, Women Techmakers, and NASSCOM! This program was a truly enriching experience, where I not only deepened my understanding of Generative AI, but also had the chance to dive into practical applications. 🚀 During the course, I learned to build two exciting projects: 🤖 A chatbot — This project allowed me to explore how AI can interact with users, provide responses, and simulate conversations. ✋ A hand detector for stone-paper-scissors — In this project, I applied computer vision to create an AI system capable of recognizing hand gestures. A huge thanks to GUVI Geek Networks for providing such a well-rounded learning platform and helping bridge the gap between theory and practice. We were delighted to have Ray Fleming, from InnovateGPT Group as the guest speaker at our most recent ClearPath CEO Syndicate session. Syndicate members discussed AI and its potential in the future of education. Our key takeaways were: - Generative AI is constantly changing and evolving. You need to add the word ‘yet’ at the end when discussing something that Generative AI can’t do as it will be able to do in the future.  - You need to build for the world that is going to exist not the world that exists now.  - Ray drew on a quote from Micorosft’s Chief Technology Officer, Kevin Scott, “Do what wasn’t possible and is now hard, don’t do what was hard and is now easy”. We need to address some of the hard or impossible problems -  if your idea is just a smart prompt, people will copy it and as a business, it will have a short-term runway.    - Co-Intelligence by Ethan Mollick - read his book! It will help you put everything into context. We'd also like to thank Howell Williams of Keypath Education for facilitating the session and for Sanjay Pillay from Cloudverse for his case study presentation. Today, I am thrilled to celebrate a major milestone, completing my ALX journey. This has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. Over the past weeks, I have immersed myself in the fascinating worlds of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The learning curve was steep, but every moment was worth it, as I discovered the immense potential of these fields for shaping the future. Throughout this journey, I built a strong foundation in AI and machine-learning theories and sharpened my practical skills through hands-on projects and real-world applications. I learned how to unlock AI powers with prompting, create content with AI, and understand the ethical implications of AI. Each new concept and project has broadened my horizons and fuelled my passion for this dynamic and rapidly evolving field. I could not have achieved this without amazing support and guidance from the ALX team and the community. Their commitment to fostering a learning and innovative environment is inspiring. The mentors provided invaluable insights; the curriculum was designed to be both challenging and accessible, and my peers offered constant encouragement and collaboration. Together, we have formed a network of learners and professionals, all passionate about technology and its potential to drive positive changes. As I stand at this crossroads, I feel a mix of accomplishments and excitement. Completing the ALX program is not the end, but the start of an exciting new chapter in my AI adventure.
