While many people in my network are desperately struggling to find jobs right now, there's another aspect to all of this which I don't hear enough people being willing to talk about and which I feel needs to be addressed, based on what I'm hearing from friends and colleagues: Many Recruiting/HR people are proving to be exceedingly poor at their jobs, both in screening candidates and in actually handling the interview process fairly and with transparency. The market is just in such a state that there's no need for them to take any accountability. I'm talking things like the following: - Straight up ghosting candidates mid-way through the process (and even after the final stage, in some cases). - Severe disinterest in the candidate themselves during screening interviews, even to the point of near hostility at times. - Timelines or interview process changing midway through without any notification, resulting in a lot of frustration and anxiety as days tick away and request for updates go unanswered. If I came across as frustrated or harsh myself, it's because a lot of people I know and care about - many of whom are in difficult financial situations - are suffering and being further hurt by a shocking lack of compassion by many of these companies and their people taking advantage of their dire situations. Recruiters, HR Teams - Y'all really need to do better.

It's a good point Kaleb. From speaking with friends and family that are either recruiters or run recruiting businesses, their revenues have been compressed over the past couple of years. I think that stress has leaked into the hiring process for some.

Completely understand your frustration, and as a company that offers employee leasing, this is something we take very seriously. We believe that recruitment should always be handled with transparency and respect because, at the end of the day, we’re all human, and we're constantly learning how to do better. At Quantum Outsourcing Group, we’ve implemented practices to ensure fairness and compassion throughout the hiring process. For example, we make it a point to communicate timelines clearly and notify candidates of any changes along the way. Ghosting is never acceptable, and we ensure feedback is provided to all candidates, regardless of the outcome. We also encourage a respectful and thoughtful approach during interviews, as we recognize that finding a job can be stressful, and our goal is to make the process as smooth as possible for everyone involved. It’s all about accountability and empathy. Thanks for highlighting this—it’s definitely something we should all work to improve!

I 100% agree candidates deserve updates. Unfortunately, I have clients that often don't send me updates, even after I prod them every 3 days. The market is such that I can't just fire such a client. So, my update is that we haven't been able to get an update. The tl;Dr is that recruiters should even send "non updates" but often the real info bottleneck is the hiring manager.

Found out recently a recruiter that I have worked with for a while has lied to me and withheld information from me on several accounts. Still on the fence if I should retaliate and report him to his manager.

Could not have said this any better myself, thanks for speaking out!

Based on what I'm reading in conversations, people are readying their pitchforks!
