5 unavoidable truths to grow your brand and your business. (As learned over 10 years in biz and by growing a community and following of 80k) 1. You're probably doing too much 20% of the things you do generate 80% of your returns in business. This is true of your: - Messaging...(You're talking about 50 things instead of the same 3 in 50 different ways) - Offerings... (You think customization and lots of products are helping your clients, but it's actually overwhelming them) - Workload...(You're married to tasks you think only you can do vs. training someone how to do them) - Sales calls...(You're spending time with unqualified peeps instead of having a system to identify your most lucrative, right-fit clients) 2. You haven't fired bad clients Again, the Pareto principle comes into play here. 80% of your heartburn comes from 20% of your pain-in-the-you-know-what clients. Ones that think everything is an emergency. Ones that pay for your advice, then second guess it. Ones that disrespect you or your values. Trust me, no amount of money is worth the sanity you are wasting on these toxic clients. Drop em. ✂️ Watch your energy and focus increase. ⬆️ 3. You need to set aside time to build your brand. I don't care what kind of business you're running; if you aren't setting aside time to build YOUR brand as the founder, you're kneecapping your future earning potential. Brand building is one of the best investments you can make. 4. You're chasing the next contract instead of building systems and products. I spent far too long "ideating" about courses and programs and far too little time putting out a minimum viable offering and perfecting it over time. This put me in a trap where I was limited by the hours I had to work. Now I have scalable offerings that people can buy without hopping on the phone with me. 5. You haven't hired the right support. If you started a business, you're likely a "big ideas" person who is great at inspiring people and building relationships. But you aren't shining at that because all the other tasks in your business are taking up your capacity and energy to do so. Take it from me, don't wait to hire an Operational Support person. Even if it's only a couple hours a week, it will make a HUGE difference. What would you add to the list? P.S. - Tomorrow I'm walking through how I hired my first OPs person. Want a copy? I’m working through this list! And while I’m still waiting for a “breakthrough” I’ve noticed a lot of growth this year both in my brand/business, but also within myself as an entrepreneur.
Your posts always call me out in the nicest, most motivational way possible. 😂 😊 Number 4 has been my life for *only* the past 5+ years!
for me it will be 95% mindset and 5% strategy.. doesn't have to be a grind once you have a great mindset. Of course totally agree with the rest of your tips and thanks for sharing it.
I’m looking forward to reading about how you hired your first OPs person- another newsletter subscriber here🙋🏼♀️ I just started following you recently and am really enjoying the content you share.
Great point about firing bad clients. That's something that sounds so obvious in theory, but tough to implement in practice (especially if you really need the money).
