🍻 Oktoberfest: MKG Consulting reports Strong Perfomance in 2024. Thanks to our German partners who actively contribute to the MKG Consulting database, we’re able to report an impressive performance in terms of both occupancy and ADR, with ADR being the main driver, during #Oktoberfest. This resulted in an overall 14.4% increase in RevPAR compared to the previous year. 📈 Oktoberfest, known as “#Wiesn ,” performed well in terms of both occupancy and ADR. During the second week, Wednesday showed slight weakness, but this was offset by a strong Sunday. EXPO REAL (Messe München), which started on the last Sunday of Oktoberfest and ran through Tuesday this year, performed exceptionally well compared to last year. The event delivered above-average results for both occupancy and ADR, resulting in an impressive 36% increase in RevPAR over the same period in 2023. I really never did. Never did buy into this view of fairs and conventions as sites of great exchanges of thoughts and ideas. It is good to meet and spend time with friends and acquaintances one has not seen for quite some while, of course. But I can count the number of meaningful longer exchanges I have had at the actual convention floor on one Hand. Most people simply prefer more intimate settings and relaxed surroundings. So do I.   I am typing all this while on my way to Hannover Messe 2024. Despite what I wrote above, events like Hannover Messe are invaluable to me, because there are few places that attract so many inter/national Tech and Industry Giants, all desperately fighting for my attention and the possibility to demonstrate their industry innovations and disruptions.   I don't go for deep talks. HANNOVERMESSE 2024 RETROSPECTIVE (a.k.a. I’d like to get back to several moments of the fair and share my thoughts) 1)     OPENING CEREMONY I did not attend the ceremony (and neither did my my colleagues from GEM System a.s. Vlastimil Fousek and Jiri Matousek). Why? The ceremony took place on Sun, Apr 21st. I received my invitation on Thu, May 16th. Why? Let’s take a closer look: Nomination for attending members from all exhibitors was supposed to happen upfront and online. The list was subject to approval from the Messe (I get it, they only wanted top management to show up). After email notification of list approval, Hannovermesse sent personalized invitation packages by physical mail (NOTE: 7 business days only from online nomination to the opening ceremony and invites should travel by mail to all corners of the world). Invitation package consisted of a shiny black & gold cover and personal registration instructions: Username & Password (see picture below). Registration instructions said: „Please register online by entering your personal registration code at www.hm-eroeffnung.messe.de“ I mean WTF? Excuse my French, but why would you do something like that? If any of you reading this post have a reasonable explanation, I’ll be happy to hear it! HANNOVER MESSE marketing team, would you like to comment?

The duration of EMO Hannover 2025 will be shortened from six to five days in the future. “#Shortening the event by one day is a #strategicdecision aimed at making EMO Hannover even more efficient and more purposeful,” said Dr Markus Heering, Managing Director, VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) —the organizer of EMO Hannover —in describing the change. The decision is based on the #exhibitors’ clear desire to #focus and #condense the #tradefair even more. In 2023, they were asked about this in detail during the event. The result was clear: the majority of exhibitors would like to cancel Saturday. #Visitinghabits have changed significantly in recent years. Visitors can obtain detailed information in advance, prepare their visit to the #tradefair better and more stringently, and also decide more quickly if necessary. According to the visitor survey, the average duration of a visit is just over a day. #Internationalvisitors stay slightly longer. “As a result, Saturday is no longer an attractive day to visit,” said Heering. “We are therefore complying with the exhibitors’ request and canceling Saturday.” EMO Hannover VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) Sylke Becker Tanja L. The 33rd UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, Global Exhibition Barometer report indicates that 2024 will be a record year for the exhibition industry, with global revenues expected to grow by 17% on average year-over-year. Trade Show Executive dove into UFI’s findings with Kai Hattendorf, the association’s CEO. “This edition of UFI’s flagship Barometer research confirms our early data from January that 2024 will be a record year for industry revenues globally. This edition shows how this growth translates into new jobs in our sector as well as in expansion plans from the majority of businesses — aiming both at new business activities as well as new geographies.
