All the yoga classes I attend open with intention-setting—a conscious commitment tied to a specific purpose 🙏. What do we want to achieve today? Celebrate? Cultivate? The other day, I realized I was there because I had too much to do, too little time, and a constant feeling of needing to push myself further. I set an intention for inner calm and clarity. In yoga, this is followed by pranayama 🌀, “conscious control of energy”—guiding your breath intentionally to gain focus, balance, and vitality. That's when it clicked for me: “self-leadership is just like that, Govert” → consciously controlling where your energy goes and knowing when to step back, breathe, and be strategic. Managing tasks, responding to urgent requests, and feeling like we must constantly improve often pulls us into the weeds—just like unregulated thoughts can cause restlessness. But as a leader, your job isn’t just to get things done. It’s to direct your energy where it has the most impact: 🌬️ *Pausing*: Like in pranayama, a deliberate pause can provide clarity and insight into what truly matters. 🌀 *Focusing*: Control your energy by knowing which requests to take on and which to gently oppose, avoiding burnout and staying aligned with the bigger picture. ✨ *Expanding*: Mindful energy focus empowers others to grow. Just as pranayama revitalizes the body, strategic leadership revitalizes your organization, allowing everyone to function more effectively.
